' The present invention relates to the regulation of the speed of power engines exposed to varying'load, as an example, in the case of marine-engines when the propeller 1s lifted from the water. In this event the .admission of steam to the engine should be arrested momentarily in a positive manner if the usual manipulation by means of the throttle valve is to be omitted. The present regulating device is adapted to act momentarily and positively whether the variations of speed of the power engine are rapid or slow, and the effect is obtained by using centrifugal I5 with a flyheel, the action caused by the relative variations of speed between 'the' swingin -motion of the centrifugal bodies and the inertia of the flywheel bein used to control. the admission of pressure uid to a,

On sald'shaft is rotatably mounted a sleeve 3 u on which a beltpulley 4 is fastened by a ey and on which the flywheel 5 is loosely mounted. In the hub of the belt-pulley. are disposed two pins 6 4o diametrally of each other. These pins project arallel to the shaft into arecess in the flyw eel 5 and support two centrifugal bodies 7 which at their ee ends are connectedto springs 7 a forcing them inwards against the action of centrifugal force. Thesprings are connected at their op osite ends to pins pro-- 'ecting from the pu ey 4. The centrifugal odies 7 are formed as double levers the arts 9 projecting inwardl and engagmg notc es 8 in the hub 10 of the ywheel 5. The said hub is provided with toothed parts 12meshing with toothed segments 13 which in turn are rotatably supported by pins 14 on a yoke 11 connected to the sleeve 3. When the speed becomes eater than alallowed, the coupling 15 1 be moved by the cam arms '13 and cause the slide valve 16 7 to be adjusted so as to lead pressure fluid behind the piston 17 and force the same with its piston rod 19 to the right for manipulating the throttle valve and simultaneously carry the slide valve back to its initialpositmn. 80
When the s eed is suddenly increased the inertia of the ywheel will prevent its motion and consequentl the flywheel act upon the centrifugal odies so as to momentarily so piston 17 to momentarily arrest the admission of pressure fluid.
It will be understood that the transfer of angular motion from the belt-pulley or the like and the flywheel as an axial-motion to the coupling 15 may be effected by any other means than that described. As an example of the mechanism shown.
Claims 1 1m in power engines exposed to varying load, a rotatable sleeve, a driving pulley connected to the same, a flywheel mounted loosely on the said sleeve, and having a recess taking up pins for supporting centrifugal bodies, a hill) on the flywheel provided with notches coacting with the said centrifugal bodies, and means for transferring the relative adjustment of the said parts to a device controlling N5 the admission of pressure fluid to the power engme.

In a power engine, a flywheel, a piston, a centrifugally actuated device coacting with said flywheel,a valve device, means for transferring the adj ustingv motion of the flywheel to said valve device for controlling the admis- 1 sion of pressure fluid to said piston, and means acted upon by the said piston for adjustment of the supply of pressure fluid to the power engine.
