Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OTFIGE.
ROBERT L. PRUYN, OF BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,934, dated September 21, 1875; application filed August 14, 1875. A
CASE B.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ROBERT L. PRUYN, of Baton Rouge, in the parish of East Baton Ronge and State of Louisana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Blind- Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my blind-fastener, and Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views of the same.
This invention has relation to blind-fasteners, wherein a vibrating hook upon the blind engages with the catch upon the wall. The object ot' the invention is to provide an easy and simple means for separating the hook from the catch, thereby allowing the blind to vbe closedwithout leaning out to reach back after the hook, as will be hereinafter fully shown and described.
The nature of the invention consists in the combination, with a vibrating hook upon the blind anda catch upon the wall, of a verticallyvibrating lever passing undersaid hook, and operated by a suitable rod reaching to the edge of the window-frame, as will be hereinafter more fully shown and described. v
In the annexed drawings, A indicates a blind hinged in the usual well-known manner to the jamb of the window-frame. To this blind is secured the casing of the fastener C. B represents a vertically vibrating hook, which is pivoted by means of a bolt, c, in mortise a in the casing C, so as to be vfree to gravitate. This mortise is cut at such an angle on the lower side as to prevent the hook from falling below a catch, b,secnred to the win- 'means of the plate q arranged upon the outside of the blind, and through which it passes.
The operating-lever n has its fulcrum at r upon the casing C, and is of angular or curved form. This lever is provided upon its power end with a slot, l, shown in Fig. l in dotted lines,
in which slot is pivoted, by means of a.pin,p,
the end of a preferably metallic operating-rod E, heldin position by a staple, s. The other end of the said rod, which is provided with an eye, by means of which it is the more easily manipulated, extends inwardly within convenient reach of a person desiring to close the' blind.
When the blind A is fastened back by means of the hook c to catch f, audit is desirable to close it, the operating-rod E, attached to the lever u, will be drawn inward, causing the said lever to raise the hookc out of catch f, leaving the blind disengaged, and allowing it to be readily closed. v
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the vertically-vibrating hook c on blind A and catch f on the wall, of the vertically-vibrating operating-lever n and rod E, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence oftwo witnesses.
ROBERT L. PRUYN. Witnesses:
