TERMINAL-POST-CLAMP FULLER.

My invention pertains to a terminal post clamp puller, and more particularly to a device for pulling the clamp from a terminal post of an automobile battery.
The main object of the invention 15 to provide such a device including means to bear on the terminal post and means to grasp the clamp, and actuating means to gradually and steadily pull or force the clamp from the post, without moving the post and without any injury to either the post or any part of the battery.
Other objects and advantageous ends are attained with my invention, as will become apparent from the following descript on taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred form of construction embodying my invention, and in which,

The preferred form of construction as illustrated comprises a tubular member or sleeve 10 having a bore 11 therein with an enlarged lower part or pocket 12. A plunger 13 with a head 14 is mounted in this pocket to slide through a guide bushing 15 which is threaded in the lower end of the pocket and sleeve. The outer end of this plunger is preferably pointed or arranged to engage and bear on the top of the terminal post 16 of a battery 17, as shown in the drawing; and a spring 18 is interposed between the bushing 15 and the head of the plunger to moveand retain the plunger normally in its retracted, inner position.
The means for engaging or grasping the clamp 19 comprises levers 20 which are pivotally mounted in shoulders or lugs 21, preferably provided by T-bars on tubular member 10, substantially as shown; and pivot pins 22 have their necks 22 threaded in the lugs, and their bodies extending through said levers. Jaws 23 at the lower ends of the levers are movable underneath the clamp 19 and a member 24, preferably in the form 01 a wedge nut threaded on sleeve 10, engages the upper parts or wedge shoulders 25 of the levers to force them apart and clasp the jaws 23 firmly on the clamp 19.
The means for actuating the plunger and operating the device comprises a threaded driver or operating member 26 threaded into sleeve 10, and having an angular head 27 on its outer end to be engaged by a wrench, also a rod or pin 28 extending through said head for operating the driver by hand. A rod or stem 29 is positioned in the sleeve, between said driver 26 and the head let of the plunger, and is preferably provided in the form of a separate member interposed between said driver and said head.
It is apparent from the above disclosures that I have provided an efiicient clamp puller, which is readily operated by turning the wedge nut 24, thereby clasping the jaws 23 firmly on the clamp 19, and then actuating the driver 26 by engaging the rod 18 or if necessary the angular head 27 b a wrench, and thereby gradually and steadily moving the sleeve 10 with the levers and jaws upwardly relative to plunger 13, thus safely removing the clamp 19 from terminal post 16 and without breaking or injuring either the post or the battery.
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A terminal post clamp puller comprising a main member having slidable means to rest stationary on the post, lever means with jaws to grasp the clamp, adjustable means to fasten the jaws on the clamp, and driver means adjustable on said member for moving said jaws with said clamp relative to said stationary means and post.
2. A terminal post clamp puller comprising a tubular member provided with a plunger therein to bear on the post, lever means with jaws to grasp the clamp, means to retain the jaws on the clamp, and a threaded driver with a cross-bar to manually move the jaws and member relative to the plunger and post.
3. A terminal post clamp puller comprising a tubular member provided with a spring retracted plunger therein engageable on a post, levers with means to engage beneath the clamp, and a driver threaded in said tubular member including manual means for moving said member and levers with the clamp upwards along said plunger and post.
4. Aterminal post clamp puller comprising a tubular memberhaving a plunger slidable therein to rest stationary on the post; levers with jaws to grasp the clamp, a wedge nut on said member to force said levers to clasp and retain said jaws on the 1012,1111), and means to move said levers and clamp relative to said plunger'whieh remains stationary on said post. 5. A terminal post clamp puller comprising a tubular member with a pocket, a plunger with a head movable in said pocket, a bushing in said pocket to guide said plunger, a spring in'said pocket between said bnshingand head to retract said plunger, means on said member to clasp the clamp and driving means to move said:
