The .principal` objects of" the invention are, to overcome the difficulties met with in the burning of oil fuel in the limited space afforded in boilers of the type used in steam a motor cars, and to provide means for eiec tively eliminating the depositin of soot upon the tubes of the boiler, there y obviating the necessity of frequent cleaning of the boiler and enhancing its use.
The principal feature of the invention consists in the novel construction and ar rangement of a combustlon chamber for l a heating small boi ers, such as are used in motor cars, tractors and like machines, great care '1s experienced bythe precipitation of has a large central passage 2 theret andy the boiler is enclosed within a casing 3, f
M being spaced from the bottom and the outer walls thereof.
. A deflecto'r cone 4 is arranged centrally of the bottomof the casing 3 to deflect the gases of combustion flowing f downwardly through the central passage 2 outwardl with a smooth flow and 'free from eddy cui rents.
The casing' 3 extends considerabl above the topof't e boiler and is prefera 1y provided with a dome top'5.
Within the dome 5 and spaced from the walls thereof is a circular casing `6 having a slightlyl arched top 7 and a central tubular extension 8 extending downwardly from a the bottom to enter the central passage 2 of Vthe boiler. l
The lower end 9 of the tubular'extensio 8 is preferabl enlarged. .A radial tu ular extension 10 flan es .directly in the path ofthe in \In'the use of li uid hydroarbon fuels for P is l formed on one side of the casing 6` and projects outwardl through the casing- 3 and is con- `necte with a suitable blower l1.
A fuel discharge nozzle 12 extends into the radial extension 10 of the casing 6 and directs a finely atomized spray of hydrocarbon in to the circular casing 6.
Directly opposite the inner end of the extension 10 is yarranged a vertical portion 13 which is of V-shapehavingthe apex thereof directed toward said .extension and the plro'ecting inwardly.
aped partition being` arranged owing air and atomized'oil dividesthestream of the mixture, causing it to flow around the chamber in twouniform streams.-
Tis
Suitable means for igniting the mixture is provided, a spark plug 14 being arranged close to the nozzle 12.
The burning mixture flows into the circu- Vlar combustion chamber, being directed around the same by the partition 13 vand the two streams of flame meeting op osite to the through the tube '8i The mixin df the combustible materials effected by .t e division and then flowing together of theA llame ensures complete combustion of the mixture before the end of the tube 8 is reached so thatfno visible flame shows at the lower endv thereofy The hot asesproduced by the combustion are then 'vided'uniformly b the cone 4 and directed laterally under t e bottom of themboiler to flow upwardly through the tubes and around the outer; side, passing over the top and flowing around the combustion chamber formed b the casing 6.
vIt will lie seen that the maximum heatingl value of the fuel lis obtained by the structure herein disclosed.
The present invention is shown and de-` oint of ingress yand flowing ownwardlyi `understood that it may be ap- 1..In a fuel oil Y, urner, a combustion chamber having an inlet passage adapted to direct a combustiblef mixturev thereunto, a
central passage openin from the bottom of said combustion cham r,-and means disposed between said passages for dividing the flow of mixture'directing it around the walls of ,the combustion chamber.
V 2. In a fuel oil-burner, a circular combustionchamber having a radial inlet, a diverging partition arranged opposite said inlet and dividing' the inflowing combustible mixture and directingfit around the inner wall of the combustion chamber,` and a central tubular outlet opening from the bottom of said combustion chamber immediately back of said diverging partition, said partition effecting an indirect communication between 'l5 the inlet and outlet. V Y having an arched top 'and an arched bottom,
3, In a fuel oil burner, a circular casing a tubular extension opening from the arched bottomv and arranged axially, a V-shaped partition extending between the top and the bottom to one side ofand above the opening 20A to said extension and spaced from the side A. wall of said casing, and an inlet passage positesaid inlet and spaced from the side wall of said circular chamber adapted to divide Athe inilowing combustible 'material and direct it-around the inner periphery of the combustion chamber.
