UNITED STATES PATENT-OFFICE.
EDWARD H. EDEN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SNOW SHOVEL.
Application filed May 26,
walk onto a lawn, street or the like.
Specifically the improvement comprises a fiat segmental blade having its rounded edge flanged upwardly, and belng provided with a pivotally supported handle thatusswmgable to align with either of the stralght edges secured thereon, whereby the handle may be arranged to propel the implement at different angles through a bed of the blade and of snow.
The drawings illustrate a satisfactory embodiment of the improvement.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a snow shovel in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view. Figure 3 IS an edge vlew.
of a flat segmental blade 1'.
blade there is ahandle 3.
passed a headed pivot 5. passes through an opening in the handle openings therethrough, and a holding means 1927. Serial 1%,. 193,020.
Preferably the pivot is in the nature of a bolt member and is engaged'by a wing nut 6.
By securing the handle in either of the openings 4 the said handle will be arranged in aline with one of the straight angle edges of the blade. 'Thus the opposite angle edge becomes the active edge of the blade. moving theshovel longitudinally thesnow will be gathered onto the blade and will be brought to contact with the flange 2 and moved therefrom off of the blade. By this arrangement it will be seen that a path or furrow will be cut by the blade through a body ofsnow and by each successive opera tion of the blade along the side of suchpath will widen the said path or furrow and that the final operation of the implement, along these lines, will direct all of the snow ofl" the path and onto a lawn, street or other surface along the side of the path.
WVith my improvement snow can be 1'6? moved and automatically directed away from a path made thereby in an easy and expeditious manner. The improvement entirely obviates the necessity of lifting the shovel and throwing the snow to one side as is customary with such class of implements.
Having described-the invention, I claim:
A snow shovel comprising a flat segmental blade whose rounded edge is flanged upwardly, a handle on the upper face of the blade pivoted thereto centrally with respect to the flange and to the apex of the blade, said blade at points equidistant from the pivot, and adjacent to the flange having 80 designed tobe passed through saidopenings and through the handle for holding the handle in a line with either of the angle edges of the blade. ' .In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
