This invention relates to improvements in f folding boxes, and hasparticular reference to a display container.
An object of the invention isfltopprovide a container which may be formed f Q iI a single sheet of material. and scored in such manner that the container may be folded into a flat condition when not in use andbe readily and quickly set up for the reception of articles to be displayed; 1
.Another object is to cut the blank from which the container is made in a novel manner so that the body thereof at one of its ends is provided with depending supporting members which enable the container,=when setup, to be placed upon a counter or other, support in an inclined position to enable a the contents thereof to be readily discernible to prospective urchasers.
A further 0 ject'is to provide the body of the container with bottom sections which form extensions of the sides of said body and which, together with said sides, are reinforced, when the container is in a set-up condition, by flaps also extending from said sides.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection wlth the accompanyin drawings, which illustrate a preferred e111 odiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the container in its set-up condition;
Figure 2 is a side elevaton thereof;
Figure 3 is a top plan view; e
Figure 4 is a transverse section on the line H of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a longitudinal section on the line 55 of Figure 3; a V v Figure 6 is a bottom plan view; and
Figure 7 is a perspective view showing the container in a partially set-up position.
The container, which may be made of any desired material, is formed from a single sheet of such material toprovide a rectangu-' lar body including the sides 10 and ends 11. The material is scored along the bottom edges of'the sides 10 to define thewbottom sections 12 and 13 which are foldable inwardly to constitute the bottom of the container, the section 12 being .cut to provide s1ots14; which receive the tongues 15 formed on the section 13 so as to interlock said sections in their operative positions;
1926. Serial No. 121,073.
'lhe ends ll of j thebbody are also scored along their bottom edges to form the front and rear "end flaps 16and1'7, respectively,
.whi ch are first folded inwardly, as bestillus trated in Figure 5, before. interlockingthe bottom sec tions 12 and13 thereunderl The, fn aterial of "which the (container is formed is cutat the rear ends of the bottom sections 12 and 13 and at the flap 17 to'for'in the angular supporting'members 18 which depend from the body of the container at the, rear end thereof so that whenthe con: tamer 1S set-up for use said members 1.8 Wlll I engage a supporting surface to maintain the containerin a forwardly inclined position'so as to readily display'the contents thereof.
"Inorder to adequately reinforce the body and thereby lend rigidity thereto the sides 10 of the body'haveextendingfrom their 7 upper edges the side flaps 19 which are designed to be folded into the body, as clearly illustrated in Figure 4, with a portion 20 of g each flap folded against the adjacent side 10 r of the body and extendingfor substantially the entire depththereof. Intermediate the longitudinaledges of each flap 19 the same is scored to define a second portion 21 adapted to engage and lay upon the end flaps 16 and 17." The Width of eachportion" 21 of the side flaps is such that when said portions are disposedwithin the body, as shown in Fig- I ure4, the free longitudinal edges of said portions will abut each otherand thus permit said portions to be disposed in the samev plane with the portions 20 of the flaps held against the sides 10 of the body to thus reinforce the same. ei The container is further provided with a top section 22 extendin from the upper edge; of the rear end 11 0 the body and said 'topsection is of such lengthrthat, if desired,
theefree extremity thereof may be bent to provide a tongue -23whichj may be-inserted etween the front end 11 of the body and the adjacent transverse edges of the portions 20 of the side flaps 19 to thereby close the con-v taine'r. When the container is opened for display purposes thetop sectiony22 is bent transversely, as indicated at 24, so that said sectionmay be folded upon itself and the free extremity 23" thereof inserted between the rear end 11 of the body and, the adjacent transverse edges of the portions 20, as best shown in Figure 5.v 'When in this position ,thefolded top section will extend upwardly from the body and any suitable advertising indicia may be printed thereon if "desired. The top section 22 adjacent its folding lineis also, cut, as indicated at 25,"toform a sub,
stantially semi-circular portion 26 which may be utilized as a price marker, as indicated in Figure 4:. i
What is claimed is: I
A foldable display container the material of which is scored to provide a body including sides and ends, bottom sections extending from the lower edges of said sides and having cooperating means for interlocking the same, bottom flaps extending from said ends and foldable inwardly into superimposed relation to said bottom sections'with one of said flaps cut to provide supporting members depending from one end of the container to support the body in an inclined potainer, and side flaps extending from the sides of said body and each having a por =tion-engageable with one of said sides and another portion engageable with the bottom formed by said bottom flaps and sections to reinforce the same, the combined Widthsof the latter portions of said side flaps being substantially equal to the distance between the sidesof said body with the-free longitudinal edges of said'latter portions in abutting relation to each other whereby said other portions will be disposed in the same lane with each other and in engagement with said bottom flaps.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
