IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-CARRIERS FOR HARNESS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,685., dated August 17, 1875; application filed July 3, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD A. COOPER, of Lancaster, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trace-Carriers for Harness, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efiicient means for carrying the traces, and thereby prevent them from falling into the mud; and it consists of a harness ring, buckle, or other equivalent harness-trimming, having two projecting pieces for each trace arranged thereon, so that the smaller part of a cockeye may be easily and quickly placed between them, and so that they will clasp around or nearly over the larger or thicker portion of the same, and hold it securely when drawn forward by the weight of the traces or otherwise, as will be more clearly shown by reference to the drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a top view of my invention, also a side view of a cockeye in dotted lines, showing the manner of connecting it thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through line X X, Fig. 1.

A represents a ring or frame; B- B, the' curved projecting pieces. They are arranged two on each side, one set for each trace, and are made to curve or incline toward each other at the top, as shown, leaving sufficient room between them to easily insert the smaller side or part of the cockeye, which is then held securely in place by simply drawing it forward, so that the larger portion fits or fills the space between the parts B B; as shown by the dotted lines Gr, without the necessity of turning or twisting it round.

The traces are readily released by carrying the cockeye forward until its smaller diameter permits its withdrawal.

The parts B B are made to incline outward from the ring or frame, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to avoid as much as possible the catching of the harness thereon, and so that when moldin g it may be drawn from the sand without a core.

I claim as my invention The combination, with the ring or frame A, of the curved inclined projecting pieces B 13, forming a trace-carrier, substantially as specified.
