UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. RHODES AND ABRAHAM BANKOFF, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
RADIANT-ENERGY COLLECTOR FOR AERIALS.
Application filed December 23, 1925.
This invention relates to electrical radiant energy collectors for aerials or antenme.
The principal object of the present invention is to augment the receptivity of aerials or radio antenna.
With the foregoing other objects of the invention will appear from the embodimentof the invention, which, by way of example, is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing, in which Figure 1 is a'diagrammatic view of an antenna havingapplied thereto several collcctors of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on an enlarged scale taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of a portion of an antenna wire with one of the collectors applied thereto.
4 is an elevation of the collector of the present invention as it is prior to its application.
In accordance with the present invention any preferred number of collectors 10 of the present invention will be attached to the wire or wires 11 of an aerial or antenna.
A collector 10 is made up from asingle piece of conducting material such as copper to form a star-like element. The material is cut and formed to provide the element with a plurality of radiating points 12, and an attaching portion 13. The attaching portion 13 occurs in the body portion of the element and extends radially outward substantially from the center thereof. The attaching portion 13 is the nature of an Serial No. 77,328.
elongated strip capable of being bent out from the plane of the body and to be wrapped about the wire 11 as at 14 to effect an electrical connection between the wire and the collector. It is to be noted that as applied to the wire the collector will be disposed transver'sely with respect thereto.
It is well known that proper receptivity is dependent upon the disposition of the antenna wires An outdoor antenna is one not capable of being adjusted to meet the radio waves coming from all directions and thus lacks universality. By employing a 5 suitable number of collectors 10 it is possible to make an ordinary outdoor antenna directional or universal and one which will be more sensitive and therefore the more readily responsive to the broadcasted electrical vibrations'in receiving operations.
It is to be understood that collectors of the present type may be used in conjunction with sending antenna.
We claim:
An electrical energy collector cut and formed from a single piece of conducting material to provide a body, radiating points on the body, and an attaching portion extending radially from a central point of the body, said attaching portion serving for effecting the attachment and the electrical connection of the collector, and said attaching portion adapted to be bent out of the plane of the body to be wrapped about a suitable conductor with the conductor extending in the space left in the body.
