This invention relates generally to window guides and refers more particularly to runways'desi ned for receiving the side edges of verticafiy movable glass panels. 7
One of the essential objects of theinvention is to provide a channel shaped runway of this type that is preferably formed of light pliable material and is reinforced in such a way that the side walls thereof will normally incline inwardly toward each other and will eflectively prevent the glass panel from. vibrating or rattling.
Another object is to provide a light and durable runway that is simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a runway for iding a vertically movable glass panel 2. i: shown, this runway is preferably channel sha e in cross section and is formed of light p iable material such as felt. The base 3 of the channel preferably comprises a sin le thickness of the felt, while the side wal s 4; thereof are provided with return-bent portions 5- that terminate adjacent to the base 3 and are stitched to the inner faces of the-side walls 7 4. For cushioning the glass panel 2, the return-bent portions 5 are preferably folded around suitable return-bent strips of felt batting 6 to form beads 7 which are engageable with the sides of the glass panel, while a strip 8 of felt is preferably stitched to the base 3 of the channel between the inner edges of the return-bent rtions 5. for engagement with the edge of t e glass panel.
For reinforcing the runway, I preferably provide asuitable wire 9 that extends in a z1gzag line longitudinally of the runway. As shown, the wire 9 has alternately arranged oppositely extending successive symmetrical loops 10. The intermediate portions 11 of the loops are preferably V-shaped and are held in place upon the base 3 ofthe channel by the strip 8, while the outer end portions 12 of the loops are substantially U-shaped and are held between the folds of the felt batting 6 by the return-bent portions 5. Thus, these return-bent portions 5 and the strip 8 serve as binding for the wire 9 as well as bearings for the glass panel 2. In order that the beads 7 of the runway: will yieldingly grip the opposite sides of the. panel 2 the U-shaped portions 12 of the wire 9 are bent inwardly with respect to the center of the channel so that the side walls 4 of the channel will normally incline toward each other as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. Moreover these converging side walls 4 may be spread apart as desired to accommodate glass panels of variable thicknesses.
Cooperating with the wire 9 are two relatively heavy wires 13 which preferably extend longitudinally of the beads 7 at the outefedges-of the channel. These wires 13 materially stiffen the sides of the runway and effectively prevent the same from bulgin twisting, or becoming otherwise distorted. Thus, a straight channel for the glass panel 2 is insured. I
While it is believed that from the forego ing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and descibed, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What I'claim as my invention is 1. A runway for a glass panel comprising a channel shaped member of flexible material, and reinforcing means for said channel shaped member including a wire extending longitudinally of said channel shaped member having alternately arranged oppositely extending successive substantially symmetrical loops disposed in the sides of said channel member, the sides of eac hloop being substantially parallel and inclined with respect to the longitudinal median line of said runway, the inner ends of the parallel sides of the loops on one side of said median line 110 connecting to the inner ends of the parallel sides of the loops on the other side of the nedian line and forming therewith flat sub- ,tantially V-shaped portions that are dis- 5 posed in and reinforce the base of said channel' shaped member.
2. A runway for a glass panel comprising a channel shaped member of'fic'x'ible material, and reinforcing means for said channel shaped member including a wire extending longitudinally of said channel shaped member having alternately arranged oppositely extending successive substantially symmetrical loops disposed in the sides of said channel 15 member, the sides of each loop being substantially parallel and inclined with respect to the longitudinal median line of said runway, the bases of the loops on one side of the longitudinal median line of the channel member being substantially parallel to the 20 bases of the loops on the opposite side of said median line; and said bases being oil-set inwardly with respect to the outer ends of the arallel sides aforesaid and maintaining the ree edge portions of the channel member 25 relatively close together to grip the sides of the glass panel.
