WILLIAM E. RAWLI NGS, 0F NEARSAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
JACK.
Application filed January 26 1927. Serial No. 163,753. 7
, This invention relates particularly to a device for raising a disc plow or s1m1lar mplement from the ground whereby to permit rotation of its axle and sharpening of the discs.v
It 1s one object of the invention to provide a device for the character indicated'that may.
v portion of the device, greatly enlarged.
Referring'more particularly to the drawing, I show at 1 a lever pivotally connected at one end as 2 to a plate? The other end is providedwith a handle 4, and spaced back 5''from the handle 4 is a leg 5 pivotally conneoted to the lever as at 6 and to a foot plate 7 as at 8, the two pivots 6 and 8'consisting of hinges arranged to operate in opposite directions to each other.
eda block 9 arranged; to lie in a horizontal plane when the leg 5 is in a vertical position and having an annular socket formed in its upper surface as at 10. I v
The reference 11 indicates a portion of the aXle of a disc, and upon which are mounted the discs as 12 separated by spacer sleeves -as 13 in the usual manner. These sleeves are usually more or less rough on their outer 4o surfaces andnot adapted to rotate smoothly in a bearing, therefore I provide a circular bearing member as 1 4 provided with hubs as 15, the whole being formed" in two parts as shown and bored to tightly engage the secured in place in any elevation of the device On the upper side of the lever 1 is mountsleeve 13. When in position this member is .When the discs have become-dulled fuse f one of these jacks is 'placedfbetweenf two discs near each endof the implement,"the?5o." v bearingmembers 14,15, 16'having previously been clamped in position on the sleeve 13,- j g and a quantity of lubricatingjgrease having:
been placed in the socket-10. Upon raising the lever 1 the. said socket engages the part l land the leg assumes'avertical position 7 thereby supporting the axle .11 in a raised position and lifting the discs free from-the it ground. This having been accomplished the; T axle and all of the discs thereon may be rotated freely in any sult'able manner, per I mitting thediscs to be ground 'to a sharp: 1
edge withoutremoving-the same from the axle l while I have herein shownand described :but one specific. form or my inventio n-,"- changes in form, constructlon and method of assembly and'operation maybe made with. in the/scope of the appended claims.
I claim: I
1. A jack for a revoluble axle comprising a lever havinga leg mounted thereonadjzt centone end and having a bearing formed thereinbetween. the leg and the otherend, y and a bearing member mountable upon the V axle to rotate therewith andjournaled'in I Y Y said bearing.
- 2. A jack for a revoluble axle comprising a lever having a plate pivotally mounted on one end thereof at right angles to theplane of movement of 'the'lever, a leg plvotally mounted thereon adjacent the other end and movable in the plane of movement of the 3 lever, the said lever having a bearing formedlss therein between the leg and plate, abearing member mountable uponanaxle to rotate therewith and journaled in said bearing, and a plate pivotally mounted upon the free I end of the leg in a, plane-parallel with the plane of said first-mentioned plate.
