UNITED STATES PER OTTO THEODOB SYLWAN, OF FORSHAGA, SWEDEN. v
CONDENSATION EXHAUST FOR DRYING CYLINDERS AND SUCH LIKE.
Application filed December 11, 1926, Serial No. 154,245, and in Sweden December 19, 1925.
like bein in communication with the interior of the drying cylinder. The purpose of the invention is to prevent the occurrence of so called air cushions which hinder the condensation from being drained off.
For illustrating the invention there is shown on the accompanying drawing, diagrammatically, in vertical section, a form of construction of the same, by way of eX- ample, applied to drying cylinders with so called scoop exhaust device.
1 designates the rotating cylinder of which only a part is shown, 2v an exhaust scoop, taking part in the inovementof the cylinder,
and 3 its connecting pipe with the fixed drain pipe 4 arranged outside the cylinder,
which drain pipe, with its lower end opens into a drain pipe or a-receptacle 6, partly filled with fluid 7 below the surface of which the tube 4 passes in such a manner that a liquid-seal is formed. A tube which is open at both ends is arranged for the puryose of ivin an outlet into the steam chalnl h) D ber of the cylinder for the steam and air which,-on the scoop assuming an exhausting position, are in the tubes, so that a compression, otherwise occurring there, and retarding the draining off of the fluid, is prevented. The tube 5 is according to the form of construction illustrated, arranged in such a manner that it passes through the shaft 8 of the cylinder and the tube 3 passing through the same, which tube serves for draining off the condensation that is being collected by the scoop 2. e
If desired, the tube a can also be provided with a blow-otf valve. It should be obvious that the arrangement in question can also be applied to other similar devices for the said purpose than the one here described and illustrated on the drawing.
Having thus described my invention I declare that what I claim is 2'- The combination with a steam drying cylinder of a condensation exhaust device comprising a scoop rotatable within said cylinder, said scoop having a conduit extending axially of said cylinder, a condensate drain pipe located outside of said cylinder and communicating with said conduit, and a Vapour pressure relief tubeextending axially through said conduit, said tube communicating With said drain pipe and with the interior of said cylinder above the level of the liquid therein.
In testlmony whereof I affix my signature. PER OTTO THEODOR SYLVVAN.
