magnets. 4 I l One feature of my invention also relates to an induction electricity meterV employing a-terminal chamber connected with and ex- Y tending outwardly from the aforesaid wall and provided with a lid having means for holding it in closed position. Such a meter of the prior art was provided with a cover seated upon the front portion of the forwardly projecting wall of the base and serv'- ing to enclose the spindle, .the damping magnet system, the counting train, and the' spindle carrying the metallic disc or armature the hurrent and pressure electromagnets of the meter. It was possible for a person de- .siring to prevent the operation of lsuch a meter for the purpose of obtaining current without cost to insert a strip of steel between the cover and its seat to an extent to engage the armature disc to prevent' its `rotation. In accordance with my invention, I add a cover which covers the main cover of the meter, this added cover extendin rearwardly beyond tl-ie front of the forwar j l wall, which it surrounds, to an extent which will prevent the insertion of such a strip into engagement with thev armature disc. In the preferred `embodiment of the invention,two rods are carried by the base, these' rods projecting forwardly through the added cover and having lnuts threaded thereon which press upon the .inneicover to hold it in place and other nuts, also threaded upon said rods, and pressing upon the added coverv to hold it in place.
Inaccordance with anothercharacteristic of my invention, the cover which I supply is formed with an openin receiving the ter#` minal'chamber, -the lid. astening means being enclosed by this cover to guard it from unwarranted access.
I will explainmy reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. lisa front view, with .parts broken away, illustrating a meter equipped lin accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is these parts being located in front ofl invention more fully by a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig.`3 is a sectional view, on a larger scale, on line '3 3 of Fig. 1.
The meter base is inclusive of a plate 1 formed with a forwardly ro'ecting wall 2 to constitute a chamber, tlie Kbase having a perforated ear 3 extending from the top thereof for receiving a mounting screw 4 which is passed through the ear intol the wall 5 or other support. Other screws 6 ate passed through the lower portion ofthe base into the support 5. The base is usually formed of 1iron and the chamber defined thereby .is commonly closed by an iron wall 7 which is suitably joined to` and within said projecting wall 2. The potential electromagnet 8 and the current electromagnet 9 are anchored to and upon the rear of the wall 7 by means of screws 10 passing through the cores of the electromagnets into the .wall 7, there being distance preserving sleeves 11 surrounding the screws vand interposed between the magnet cores and said wall. T'he electromagnets are upon the rear side of thev wall 7, being surrounded by the wall 2 and enclosed within the chamber defined by the wall 2. The upright meter spindle 12 is positioned by the bearings 13 and 14' which are carried by the wall 7 upon the front thereof. The spindle carries a non-magnetic metallic armature disc 15 which extends through an opening 16 inthe wall 7 and into the space between the poles of the magnets to be in inductive relation thereto. The spindle is provided with a Worm 17 in -mesh with the initial wheel 18 ,of a gear train which operates the indicators of the meter, in a manner well known. This gear train is supported by a permanent magnet 19 and Athis magnet in turn isheld by the vclips 20 which are carried by and project forwardly yes of the wall 2, Aa. sealing gasket 22 being interposed between the cover and said wall.' The terminal chamber 23 is connected with -and extends'downwardl or outwardly from said wall 2, in accor ance with common practice, this terminal chamber carrying the terminals for the electromagnets with which terminals the circuit` wires 24 are also connected.
The terminal chamber is provided with a lid 25 which is hinged or pivoted at 26. A.

The added cover 30, of my invention, is desirabl also formed of glass, this cover coveringt e first cover' and all of the parts of the meter which have been described excepting the terminal chamber whichV is received within a U-shaped opening 31 that is formed in the base portion of the added cove-r, this opening, by virtue of its U-shape, permitting the added cover to be slipped into place and over the terminal chamber after the meter proper has been mounted upon the support 5. The fastening screw 27 that holds the lid 25 closed andthe ear 28 that is carried by the lid, together with the sealing wire 29. are also covered by the second cover'30 so as to further guard the lid from being unwar rantably opened. The two covers are-1 held in position by two rods 32 which are carried by the base and project forwardly therefrom through the covers. Two nuts 33 are threaded upon these rods and press upon the inner cover 21 to hold it upon its seat. Two other 34, are screwed upon the outer ends of the rods and press upon the second cover 30 to hold the base thereof against the .wall or Sealing wires 35 are passed through the rods andin front of the wing nuts to prevent these nuts and .thei
covers from belng removed. l Y ,In addition -to further protecting the fastening means which holdthe terminal chamber lid closed, the second cover, by extendi ing rearwardly beyond the seat for the first cover, guards against the insertion of a metal strip into holding engagement-with the armature disc whereby the meter is prevented from being fradulently placed in inoperative condition. Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In an induction electricity meter, the
.combination with a supporting base having a forwardly projecting wall to constitute said base a chamber; of a terminal chamber connected with and extending outwardly from said wall and provided with a lid; fastening means for holding said lid in closed "position; current and ressure electromagnets disposed within t e first chamber; a spindle rotatably supported upon said base in front of said magnets; a metallic disc 4upon said spindle and in inductive relation to` said magnets; a cover seated upon the front portion of the aforesaid wall; and a second cover covering the first cover and surrounding said forwardly projectin wall,
the second cover extending rearwar ly beyond the place of engagement of the rst cover with said forwardly projecting wall and being formed with an opening receiving said terminal chamber, the second cover also covering the fastening for the terminal chamber lid.
2. Inan induction electricity meter, the combination with a supporting base having a forwardly projecting wall to constitute said base -a chamber; of a terminal chamber connected with and extending outwardly from said wall; current and pressure electromagnets disposed Within the 'first chamber; a spindle rotatably supported upon said base in front of said magnets; a metallic disc upon said spindle and in inductive relationv to said magnets; a` cover seated upon the front portion of the aforesaid wall; and a second cover covering the first coverand v surrounding said forwardly projectin wall,
the second cover extending rearwar ly be yond the place of engagement of the first cover -with said Aforwardly Vprojecting wall and being formed with an opening receiving said terminal chamber.
3.
