DISPENSING DEVICE;
Original application filed my 20, 1921, Serial No. 486,071. Divided and this application filed January 9, 1922. Serial No. 527,900.
The present invention relates to improvements in dispensing devices and more especially has to do With an improved closure and closure locking means adapted for cup dispensing and like apparatus, this application being a division of my application filed July 20, 1921 Serial No. 486,071.
Une object at the invention is to provide an improved closure of a simple eliicient nature adapted to be readily adjusted to opened and closed positions, and that when opened Will occu y little space and be entirely out of the Way.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved closure of the character referred to having means for locking the in opened and closed positions A further object of the invention is to provide improved closure and closure locking means of simple, compact construction in the form of a single unit adapted to be detachably connected with the dispensing apparatus.
An important novel feature of the invention also resides in the provision of im proved means for locking the cup container to the casino. and a common kev control penser equipped with improved closure and locking means in accordance With the pres em; invention.

Figure 13 is a detailed side elevation of the pawls of the container locking means. Figure 14 is a detail side elevation, with parts shown in section, of the operating shaft and key control of the locking means.
1 Figure 15 is a rear elevation of the lock plate.
Figure 16 is plate.
Figure 17 is a top plan view of sure plate.
Figure 18 a late. l'Vhile aspecific embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawings, it will, of course, he understood that changes and variations of the particular construction illust-rated, and the embodiment of the invention in other forms as will appeal to those skilled in the art and falling Within the an end elevation of the lock the closcope of the appended claims may be prao' tic'ed Without departing from the spirit of the invention. a
The invention comprehends an improved closure, and supporting and locking means therefor comprising a casing part located at one side of the main easing of the appa 'atus, and a. door or closure plate connected with the easing. part to provide for positioning the P211110, within Ftlltl easing part out ol the way and concailed from view, when not in use. and to he readily withdrawn from the casing part; to a position to close the delivery opening thereof. with means for locking the closure plate hoth in its open and closed positions.
Reterring to a detailed description ot the drawings. 1 designates a casing prel'erahl of metal whieh terms a SHPPOll tor the cup container and the delivery mecl aniein. The casing. 1 which is shown an of general cylindrical term with suhstantially rectangular shaped exten-=ions "J at the trout and rear, has integral flanges or liraclt t portions 3 adapted to he secured, h v screws l; or the lilit. to an} suitahle support 5. Atthe lower part of the houein5 is a tubular delivery part 11. In this particular instance the tubular part 11 Hipported, as shown. to axial rotation on the bottom plate 1 of the casing. said tuhular part 11 being adapted to he turned to operate the cup delivery mechanism. The tuhnlar part. 11 is shown as having a restricted throat portion 12 formed hy tapering rile; 13 on the inner face thereof. and an ini ard- 1y extending annular lip or flange 1 1 at its lower end.
In the preferred einhodini nt oi the inven tion illu trated in the drawings. the door casing part and locking means is shown in the l'orm oi a single unit detaehahl connected with the main casing for the cup delivery mechanism.

ing part, and is free for movement to en-,
gage or disengage the same with the tubular part 11. By giving the operating shaft a half turn in the direction of the arrow (see Figure 5 of the drawings), the lock plate 32 will be moved downwardly and laterally, the inclined face portions 37-38 en'- gaging the inclined face portions 3940 effecting a lateral shifting of the plate as the same is moved downwardly by the eccentric, the plate being moved to a position to engage and hold the closure plate within the casing, (as shown in Figure 4), or to hold the closure plate in its closed position (see Figure 5), in the latter case the lower end H of the lock plate 32 engaging the inner end of the closure plate 25. By rotating the shaft and another half turn in the direction of the arrow, the lock plate 32 will be moved by the eccentric upwardly and rearwardly out of engagement with the lock plate back to the position indicated in Figure 4? of the drawings. The operating shaft 35, at one end is provided with a slot 46, and arranged to slide longitudinally therein is a lock pin 42, said pin 42 having a stem port-ion 42 working in longitudinal bore 43 in the end of the shaft 44 designates 'i a coiled spring acting to force the lock pin 42 outwardly into engagement with a slot 45 of the casing part 15, the pin 42 being adapted to engage the slot and lock the op erating shaft 35 against rotation when the lock plate 32 has been moved to its operative and inoperative positions. The lock pin 42 is adapted to be depressed out of engagement with the slot 45 in the casing part 15, and the shaft 35 rotated by a key 46 adapted to be inserted through the slot 45, said slot extending to the exterior casing part 15. v In combination with the closure locking means, means is also provided for locking the cup container 7 to the casing 1 The collar 8 at the lower end of the cup container is provided with a series of teeth 47. Co-
operating with the teeth 47 are two pawls 4849 arranged side by side and having teeth 48 49. 50-51 designates springs which act to force the pawls 48-49 inwardly into engagement with the teeth 47 of the collar 8, each of said springs being secured at one end to the casing part 15 by a screw 52, and having their upper portions engaging notches 48 -49 in the, inner ends of the pawls. The notches 4SF-49 are of different depth and alternately arranged as shown, said pawls being adapted to operate independently of each otherin engaging the teeth 47 of the collar 8. The pawls 4849,
are provided with slotted portions I to engage an eccentric portion 53 on the opcrating shaft 35, the eccentric portion 53 be ing adapted, when the shaft 35 is turned to move the lock plate 32 to inoperative position, toalso retract the pawls 4949 from engagement with the teeth 47 of the col lar 8.
It will be noted that thespecial locking means for the closure and container is of a simple and efiicient nature, and that a single key control serves for both locking means provision being made for locking the cup container to the casing when the apparatus is in use as well as when the door or closure plate is locked in closed position.
