GAS BURNER;
Application filed March 1, 1926. Serial No..91,580.
j in which the airunder pressure is mixed with the gas in order to obtain an intenseV flame with a small Consumption of gas.
This burner is employed particularly for heating boilers used in tailoring establishments for vthe pressing". of clothing under steam. In the accomplishment of the objects of the invention, the burner is placed beneath the water compartment of a simple boiler. rlhe burner itself comprises a hollow base in which is mounted a circular partition dividing the interior of the base substantially into two sections. The partition is however interrupted to permit communication between the two sections. Gas and compressed air are emitted to the outer section, and a complete mixture is made by the circulation of the gas and air from one side of the partition to the other. A number of jets are inserted in the top wall of the base and are evenly distributed on both sides of the partition. The intimate'mixture which has been formed in the manner indicated is ignited at the uniformly distributed jets whereby a corresponding number of elfectively arranged flames are produced.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical section of a boiler showing the burner installed therein;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the burner;
Figure 3 is a plan view, partly in section, of the burner; v
Figure Ll is a diametrical section of the burner;
Figure 5 is a detail section;
Figure 6 is a plan view of one of the jets; and j Figure 7 is a sectional view of the union for connecting the gas and compressed air pipes to the burner.
Reference to these views will now be made by use of like characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
The burner comprises a hollow body or base 1 having a central opening 2 which renders the inner space of the base annular in formation. This space contains a circular partition 3 extending from thebottom wall i to the top wall 5, as shown in Figure 4, and interrupted as atV 6 and 7 to permit llow between the spaces at opposite sides of the partition. j
. Into the top wall 5 are threaded a number `of jets 3 divided into two circular series disposed at both sides of the partition 3,
rlhe elements of the inner series alternate with those of the outer series as clearly shown in `Fi, ;ure 2..
' Each jet 8 is a substantially tubular member having a rounded upper end 9 and a pair of intersecting slots 10 formed in the rounded end as illustrated in Figure 6.
At one side of the base 1 is formed a nipple 11 into which is inserted a connecting pipe 12 received in one of the arms 13 of a 3-armed union let. The remaining openings 15 and 16 of the union receive a gas pipe 17 and a compressed air pipe 13 respectively as shown in Figure 3. A nozzle 19 is disposed within the union and has branches 20 and 21 which extend to the arms 15 and 16 respectively. The outlet of the nozzle is of smaller cross section than the fluid pipes 17 and 18 as is also evident from Figure 7. The pipes 17 and 13 are provided with valves 22 and 23 respectively by means of which the delivery of fluid to the nozzle may be controlled.
Figur-e 1 illustrates the burner installed in a simple boiler 30 having a transverse partition 31 which forms a water compartment 32 and a fire pot 33. The base 34 of the boiler has an opening 35 for the additional supply of air.
In the operation of the burner, gas is admitted through the pipe 17 and the compressed air which enters through pipe 18 aids in carrying the gas to the body of the burner. The gas and air are'mixed, and the product is distributed to each of the jets 8, assuring a uniform and regular combustion beneath the water space 32. This is obtained by the interrupted wall 3 which finally mixes the air and gas in a thorough manner, 'and by the peculiar positioning of the jets 8 as described above. It will be yapparent that the burner itself constitutes a means for completing the mixing operation which commences as the gas and air pass from the relatively narrow nozzle 19 into the pipe 12.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described,
it is toloe understood that various alterations in the details of construction naay be inade Without departing troni the spirit of the invention as indicated bythe appended claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I elaiin as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is l. A gas burner comprising a hollow hase, a plurality of jets inserted therein, each jet having a pair of intersecting' slots in its outlet end, a circular interrupted partition within said hase. and means 'tor supplying gas and compressed air to said base.
2. A gas burner comprising' a hollow base, a plurality of jets inserted therein, a circular interrupted partition within saidl hasei a union having three openings, a pipe con necting one of said openings with said base, gas and air pipes connected to the remaining openings, a nozzle within said union and having branches leading to the gas and air openings, the outlet of said nozzle being' ot smaller diameter than said pipe.
' 3. A gas burner comprising a. hollow hase, a plurality of jets inserted therein, each jet having a pair of intersectingslots in its outlet end, a. circular interrupted partition within said hase, a union havingl three openings, a pipe connecting one oli said openings with said base, gas and air pipes connected to the remaining` openings` a nozzle within said union and having' branches leading' to the gas and air openings, the outlet ot said nozzle being` of sinaller diameter than said pipe.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
RAOUL GARNEAU.
