Application ned Auguri 2s', 1925. serial' ne. 53,074.
A further object is to provide an improved grave vault in which the parts are economical to produce. and easily handled and placedV in the gra-ve. j
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly "defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in theaccompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a side viewv of my improved grave vault in assembled relation.
Fig. II is a transverse section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Figs. I and Fig. III is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. I showing details of the fastening means. l Fig.`IV is a plan view of the base.
In the drawing similar numerals of ref erence indicate similar parts in all of the views and the sectional views are taken fastening in the direction of the littlel arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, my improved grave vault comprises a cast iron base 1 having a flange 2 of substantial width disposed in spaced relation tothe edges of the base. The side portions of vthis flange are connected by the cross pieces 3 thereby providing a casket edestal.' The fla-nge also serves as a rein orcing element for the base.
The body designated generally by the numeral 4 is also formed of cast iron and comprises integral top, side and end walls. The top is reinforced by the central longitudinal ribs 5 while the sides and ends have vertical ribs 6 mer g into this top rib '5. At the edges of tclenside and end walls isa reinforcing rib 7 into which the vertical ribs also mer e. The body is adapted to rest upon the ase at the outside of the flange 2 thereof. .The body is providedwith a pair of hand holds 8. A
Adjacent its side edges the body is provided with keepers 9 which 'are enga ed by the clamps 10 on the bolts 11. The ase is provided'with upward offsets 12 slotted at 50 13 to receive the bolts, the offsets providing Vrecesses 14 for the heads ofthe bolts as shown in Fig. III.
Thus arranged, the body securely clamped together. done prior to lowering into the grave if desired, or the particular arrangement of and base may be clamps permits of their being enga ed after the parts have been lowered into t e grave.
The body is made air tight so that an air seal is provided preventing the entrance of water.` It is not necessary to deiend upon an air tiht joint between the bo y and the base, although if desired this joint may be cemented.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a grave vault, thecombination of a cast iron base, a cast iron bodyresting on 9 said base and comprising integral top, side and end walls and having a relnforcing rib t atf the edge thereof, the top having a centrally disposed longitudinal reinforcing rib,
the ends and sides having reinforcing ribs 3' extendlng from said edge reinforcing rib and merginginto said tlp reinforcing rib, sald top' avmg hand hol s projecting from its said reinforcing rib and laterally projecting keepers adjacent the edges thereof, said lbase bemg slotted Aat its edges to receive bolts, bolts engaged in said slots, and clamps on said bolts-coacting wlth said keepers on said body.
2. In a. grave vault, the combination of a 96 cast iron base having an integral casket pedestal thereon, a cast iron body resting `on lsaid base and comprising integral top, side and end walls and having a relnforclng rib at the edge thereof, the top having a cen- V10i trally. disposed longitudinal reinforcing rib, the ends and sides having reinforcing ribs extending from said edge reinforcing rib and merging into said to reinforcing rib, said to aving hand hol s itssai reinforcing rib.
3. In a grave vault, the combination of'a base having anV upwardly rejecting flang in spaced relation to the e ges thereof wit cross pieces on ,the flange providing a casket Il pedestal, a body resting on said base at the outside of said flange, said bese being slot- This may be projecting from 10i tedat its ed to receive bolts, bolts enga ed in sai slots, clamps on said bolts an keepers on said body coaoting with sai clam s.
4. n a grave vault, the combination of a base having an upwardly projectinl continuous flan e in spaced relation to t e edges theref wlth cross ieces on the fia providin a casket pe estal, a body resting on said ase at the outside of said ange andA said base ing slotted at its edges to receive bolts, keepers on said body aligned with said .slots in said base, and bolts eng said slots and kee rs whereby the y is Il clamped upon the ase.
In witness whereof my hand.
I have hereunto set LEoN GsoHWIND.
