This invention is directed to improvements -in dry-cell batteries.
The object of the invention is to provide a battery of this type constructed in such I manner so as to provide a recess or reservoir for the reception of solution of sal ammoniac capable of entering the battery cell to revive or increase the activity thereof after hav-. in become deteriorated from use.
%n the accoinpan ing drawing, the figure represents 'a. centre, vertical sectional view through the cell.
The battery comprises a tubular container 1 of any suitable moisture repellinf material, and is formed with a bottom 2. nserted in the container is a zinc sleeve 3, the upper end of which extends above the container 1,
the purpose of which will be later explained. A lining 4 of rolled blotting aper is inserted in the container, and wit in the confines of the sleeve 3, the lower end of this roll resting upon the bottom 2, while the upper end thereof is in the same plane as the upper end of the container. By rolling the blotting pa r a central 0 ning 5 is p vided whic receives a cy inder 5' of the ma anese.
The bottom 2 has a central depending lug 2' and in which is mounted a brass'cap3'.
Fitted in the cylinder o'is the carbon e100 trode 2, the bore of the c linder 5 accomm' dating said electrode w 'ch has its lower end engaged in the brass cap 8'. a
i A disk 11 of suitable porous composition an i placed within the sleeve 3 and rests upon the upper ends ot the roll 4 and cylinder 5' and above this disk is placed aperforated lower end circular plate 8. A collar 12 encircles the upper extended ends of the sleeve 3 and interposed'between the upper end of the con- 40 tainer 1 andsaid collar is a rubber gasket 7. It will thus be seen that the extended end of the sleeve forms in con'unction with the plate '8 a reservoir 8' in w ich a solution of sal ammoniac is placed, the perforations 9' of the plate permitting the solution to pass throughthe disk 11 and through the same for absorption by the roll 4 to distribute it to the cell in order to revive the same.
The container 1 and lug 2' are provided, respectively, with extensions 10 and 12, the latter having an electrode 6 therein which connects with the cap 3' while theelectrode 9 within the extension 10 connects with the sleeve 3. I
Having thus described the invention, 1
claim An electric battery of the class described, comprising a container, a bottom for the container, a cap associated with the bottom, 60 a sleeve in the container having its upper end extended above the container to provide a reservoir, [bottom for the reservoir includi a rous disk. and perforated late,
an a orbe zt element in the sleeve, a i ylinder of manganese in said element, an elec trode' within the cylinder and hav' its engaged with the cap, a l id its i with the disk, and elecrespectively, with the sleeve in trodes cage and cap. 7 i
In testimony whereof I aflix my signatum HENRI VIGNON. [1,. a]
