UNITED s'ra'resv PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM .RQSEN'IHAL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T ENID MANUFACTURING 00., INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., .A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
BBASSIERE FOR FORMAL WEAR.
Applicationfiled May 14, 1927. Serial No. 191,345.
This invention relates to brassieres and more particularly to brassieres for formal wear, an object of the invention being to provide a brassiere which permits the wearing 5 of a very low back evening gown Without exposing a portion of the brassiere.
A further object is to provide a brassiere which is crossed at the back and has garter attachments with shoulder straps support- 0 ing the brassiere whereby 'the brassiere is held in place and at the same time maintained smoothly around the body and functions as a support'for the stockings of the wearer.
A further object is to provide a brassiere of this type which is extremely ornamental and attractive in appearance, which is comfortable to the wearer and which is espe cially designed to be worn with evening ress.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure l is. a three-quarter perspectlve view of a figure showing my improved brassiere thereon;
Figure 2 is a back View of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an exaggerated view in sec tion on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
1, 1 represent breast covering portions of the brassiere, which may be of silk or any other suitable material and which are connected by an elastic section 2. This elastic section may be covered with the same material used to make the breast covering. por tions, and the outer ends of the breast cover ing portions have extensions 3 secured thereto which may be of the same material as the breast covering portions although of course li do not limit myself to the particular ma terial employed.
Shoulder straps 4 are secured to the extensions 3 at the back of the brassiere and at the upper edges of the breast covering portions 1. Elastic tapes 5 are secured to the ends of the extensions 3 and have garters precise details set forth but 6 at their extremities for attachment to the stockings 7.
The extensions 3, 3 are preferably widest at their points of attachment with the breast covering portions 1 and decrease in width to their ends or at their points of attachment to the elastic tapes 5.
In use the shoulder straps are positioned on the figure and the extensions 3 crossed at the back, and at their point of crossing I provide a coupling device 8 which may constitute an ordinary snap fastener although any other suitable coupling means might be employed. The garters 6 areattached to the stockings 7 and hold the hrassierein a general V-shape at the back so that a dress havmg a very low back may be used without exposing the brassiere.
It is this broad idea of a brassiere crossed at the back and having hose supporters thereon which constitutes my invention, and while I have illustrated and described a specific construction it is obvious that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my inven tion and hence I do not limit myself to the consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A brassiere having its ends coupled at ,the back and having garter supporting elastic tapes at the ends of the brassiere at the back thereof, said brassiere crossed at the back, and a coupling device securing the crossed brassiere at the back.
2. A brassiere having its ends coupled at the back and having garter supporting elastic tapes at the ends of the brassiere at the back thereof, said brassiere crossed at the back, a coupling device securing the crossed brassiere at the back, and shoulder straps connecting the front and back portions of the brassiere.
3. A brassiere of the character described having breast covering portions, an elastic section connecting the breast covering portions, shoulder straps secured to the brassiere at the breast covering portions and ad- 4. A hrassiere having its ends coupled at the back, garter supporting tapes at the ends of the brassiere at the back thereof, 10 and shoulder straps connecting the front and back portions of the brassiere.
WILLIAM ROSENTHAL.
