The invention is a small stand with a plu rality of shelves that may be set on a table, desk or any desired place and which may be folded up. The object of the invention is to provide a small portable and collapsible device upon which several articles may be placed, each of which'would .normally utilize as muc space as the stand.

Another object of the invention is to provide a means for holding several dishes, and particularly hot dishes on a small table without utilizing the entire table.

And a further object of the invention is to provide a means for holding several articles in one place that will fold up so that it may be readily put away.

With these ends in View the invention embodies a stand having two vertical members for the main supports, horizontal members adjustably held to the lower ends of the vertical members, plates pivotally supported between the vertical members, and a third vertical member for rigidly holding the plates.

Other features and advantages of the invention will apear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation.

Figure 5 is a detail showing the spring washer in the horizontal members at the foot of the vertical members. In the drawings I have shown my stand as it would be constructed wherein numerals 1 and 2 indicate the vertical members, numerals 3 and 4 the horizontal members, numeral 5 the plates forming the trays, and numeral 6 the third vertical member.

The vertical members 1 and 2 may be oon- .structed as shown with holes 7 through their lower ends, through which they are attached to the horizontal members 3 and 1, shoulders 8 adjacent the lower ends, which shoulders rest on the horizontal members 3 and 4, and holes 9 through them, in which the bars 10 on the ends of the plates 5 are pivoted by the pins 11. The pins 11 in the upper ends of the members 1 and 2, also hold clips 12 in which the handle 13 is held and in the tops of these clips are notches 1a h by the bolts which hold the handle in thevertical position whenit is not being-used.

The lower ends of the vertical members 1 and 2 are held to the horizontal members 3 and i by the bolts 15, the heads of which may be brazed to the ends ofthe plates 5 which are held to the horizontal members 15 and also by pins 16. The bolts-15 pass through holes 17 in the horizontal members and these holes have recesses 18 countersunk in their outer sides in which spring washers 19 may be placed. This connection is held together by a wing, or thumb nut 20 and it will be seen that as the nut is loosened the spring washers 19 will force the vertical members outward until the shoulders 8 are beyond the sides of the members 3 and 4c so that these members may be twisted or folded to the position shown in Figure 3.

At one end of the stand is a third vertical member 6 which is attached to the extended ends 21 of the bars 10 by the pins 22 and also to the horizontal member at that end of the stand bythe pin 23; and it will be seen that this member will hold all of the plates and the horizontal members parallel in either the open or folded position.

One of the plates 5 may be indented to form a space in which an electric element may be placed as shown at the point 24 in Figures 1 and 2 and this may be connected by an electric cord 25 to any suitable means for generating electric current, so that articles may be cooked or kept warm.

It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the size, shape or number of the plates 5, or in the placing of the electric element in more than one of the plates or the omitting of it altogether. Another may be in the type of handle used or in the means for attaching it to the stand, and still another may be in the shape or design of the vertical or horizontal members or in the method of attaching them to the plate.

The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To use the device it may be assembled as shown and placed upon a small table as in a breakfast nook and all of the dishes or utensils placed upon the shelves or plates 5 so that it will not be necessary to crowd the space on the table or to keep getting up and down to take away soiled dishes and get fresh ones. .01 itmay be placed on aldesk and books or other articles placed upon it so that they will not be strewn all over the desk. It will also be seen that the device may be lifted and carried to any desired position and when not in use it may be folded and placed in any convenient place or hung upon the wall by the handle or by placing a hole 26, which may be placed in the outer edge of one of theplates, ,over a hook or other suitable device.

Having thus fully described the invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device of the class described, horizontal base members, vertical bars pivotally attached-to the centers of said base members, an auxiliary vertical bar pivotally attached to one of the base members adjacent one end, trays pivotally attached to the vertical members that extend upward from the centers of the base members, and supported between them, arms extending outward at one end of the trays, the outer ends of said arms being pivotally attached to the auxiliary vertical bar, and a handle pivotally attached to clips at the upper ends of the two central vertical members, and the connections at the lower end of the said central vertical members being adjustably held to the base members by thumb screws with spring washers in recesses between the Vertical members and the base members.
