ANCHOR-BOLT SLEEVE.

This invention relates to in'iprovements in means for setting anchor bolts in concrete construction and has for its primary object the provision of means for setting a bolt in such manner as to permit of lateral adjustment after the concrete has set, so that the bolt may be accurately positioned without injury to the concrete work.
Another object oi the invention is the provision of means of the above character which will also permit of accurate longitudinal adjustment of the bolt during the construction of the concrete work.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the tollowing novel features and details oi construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 3 the wedge.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a portion of concrete construction in which is embedded an anchor bolt 11, the latter being designed for connecting a suit able superstructure to the concrete work 10 as will be readily understood. The bolt 11 may provided with a head 12 and may have mounted thereon an anchor plate to provide a relatively large bearing surface and to more securely hold the bolt in place.
Embedded within the concrete work 10 and surrounding the bolt 11 is a tubular member or sleeve 14-. This sleeve is spaced from the bolt and extends downward for an appreciable distance from the top of the concrete work and terminates short of the head of the bolt so that a portion of the shank may be surrounded by the concrete. The inner end of the sleeve 14 is closed by a preferably shouldered plate 15 and the latter is provided with an opening 16 for the passage of the bolt. In addition, the plate 15 is provided with a notch 17 for the reception of a wedge 18 so that the plate may be frictionally engaged with the bolt to regulate its position and consequently the position of the sleeve 14. By this means longitudinal relative adjustment of the bolt and is a detail perspective view of sleeve may be provided. By spacing the sleeve from the bolt, the latter may be accurately adjusted laterally in any direction without injuring the concrete and the outer end of the bolt may thus be accurately positioned for the Work.
In order to prevent entrance of concrete into the sleeve 14 when the bolt is being set, there is provided a removable cap 18, he latter being designed to temporarily close the outer end of the sleeve so that the cap may be reused. In addition, the cap 18 serves to properly and evenly space the bolt Within the sleeve when the bolt is being set, so that the cap performs a twofold function.
When setting the bolt, the sleeve 14 is adjustably positioned upon the bolt by means of the wedge 18 and plate 15 as previously mentioned, the position of the sleeve being regulated according to the extent it is desired to have the bolt project from the work 10. Ihe cap 18 is positioned over the bolt at the outer end of the sleeve and the concrete poured around the sleeve and bolt, the cap as stated, preventing the entrance of concrete into the sleeve. After the work has set, the cap 18 is removed and if the bolt is not exactly positioned, it may be moved laterally within the upper end of the sleeve a sufficient distance to bring it into proper position.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, pro-portions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention whatis claimed is 1. In combination with an anchor bolt for concrete construction, a tubular member embedded in the concrete and spaced from and surrounding the bolt, the inner end of said bolt being spaced from the inner end of the tubular member and embedded in the concrete.
2. In combination with an anchor bolt for concrete construction, a tubular member embedded .in the concrete and spaced from and surrounding the bolt, the inner end of said bolt being embedded in the concrete, a substantial distance from the inner end of the tubular member and a temporary closure for the outer end of the tubular member.
3. In combination with a. headed anchor bolt for concrete construction, a tubular member embedded in the concrete and spaced from and surrounding the bolt, the head of said bolt being spaced from the inner end of the tubular member and embedded in the concrete, and means to hold the bolt and tubular member adjusted longitudinally.
4. In combination with an anchor bolt for concrete construction, a tubular member embedded in the concrete, and spaced from and surrounding the bolt, the inner end of said member being spaced from the inner end of the bolt to permit of lateral adjustment of said bolt, a bottom for the inner end of the tubular member, said bottom having an opening therein for the passage of the bolt, a Wedge extending through the bottom and engaging the bolt to adjustably hold the bolt and tubular member connected and a temporary cap for the outer end of the tubular 20 member.
