My invention relates to tables and the principal objects of the invention are to provide a table of the knock-clown type with locking joints whereby the table may be assemble d in rigid form entirely without the use ofnails, screws or other fastening means.

Other objects are to provide corner lock-mg joints that are independent of any other fastening means and which may be used in lo securing the corners of any article of manufacture to which they are adapted. Further objects are to provide a table with looking joints that are simple and durable in construct-ion, substantial and efficient in use, and that are comparatively inexpensive to manu facture.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, adaptation, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. Referring to the drawings throughout which like reference numerals designate like parts, the numeral 5 indicates the table top, and the numerals 6 and T designate the two end members that are provided with legs 8. The end members are each provided with an upstanding tongue 9 having slots 10 at either of its sides and'foreshortened shoulders 11 outwardly adjacent said slots.

Side members 12 and 13 are each provided at both their upper end portions wit-lrrelatively wide slots l-it and at both their lower end portions with relatively narrow slots 15, disposed centrally below said wide slots. Referring to Fig. 4 of the drawings, it will be understood that the slots 10 and 15. are of equal widths and said widths are equal to the thickness of the material in which they are cut. Therefore as said slots are slipped one within the other they will overlap in the positionshown in Fig. 5 with the upper walls of slots 15 resting on the lower walls of slots 10 as will be readily understood.

In order to complete the assemblage of the table framework it is only necessary to install the transverse locking members 16 at either end thereof by slipping their slots 17 over the tongues 9 of the end members. slots 10 and 15 are so proportioned in depth that the shoulders 11- will be on the level and flush with the bottoms of the wide slots 14 when the side members 12 and 13 are installed on the end' members 6 and 7 and the upper edges of said members will be on a level with the upper edges of the tongues 9.

The thicknesses of the locking members 16 are equal to the distance between the shoulders 11 which is the same as the depths of the slots 14. Therefore when said locking members are installed their lower edges will rest on the shoulders 11 and bottoms of the slots 14, while their upper edges will be on a level and flush with the upper edges of the side members 12 and 13 and tongues 9 making a flush bearing for the top 5. It will be 7 understood that the locking members 16 are glued or otherwise secured to the underside of the table top prior to assemblage of the members.

WVhile I have described the difierent members in a collective sense it will be understood that my invention resides essentially in the joints at all four corners of the table. In this preferred embodiment I have shown each of the end members 6 and 7 as one piece together with their legs 8. I some times out said end members in two pieces, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and provide two short slots 'in the locking members 16 for the two tongues formed by cutting said members instead of the one long slot 17. The function of the several members will, of course, remain the same.

WVhile I have described my device with some particularity it will be understood that I intend no limitations except in so far as may be imposed by the appended claims, and that such changes may be resorted to as are within the scope and spirit of the inven tion. 2.
