P. COLE v JAR CLAMP AND WRENCH Filed Nov. 25, 1924 l/ daiaie INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 27, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL COLE, OF 'IYRRELL, OHIO.
JAR CLAMP AND WRENCH.
Application filed November 25, 1924. Serial No. 752,244.
This invention contemplates the provision of a novel form of jar clamp and wrench whereby a jar and preferably a fruit jar may be held in position while removing the top.
Another object of the present invention contemplates the provision of a novel form of jar clamp whereby pint and quart sizes may be selectively engaged whereby a plurality of different size wrenches or clamps will not be needed.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a wrench pivotally supported upon the jar clamp and adapted to engage the tops of pint and quart size jars.
The advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the views, and wherein:
The figure shown in the drawings is a perspective of a jar clamp engaging a quart size jar and the wrench engaging the jar top thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a fruit jar of the usual and well known type used in preserving and wherein the usual cover top 11 is employed.
The jar clamping means hereinbefore referred to includes a pair of clamping members 12 and 13 respectively, the clamping member 12 being larger than the member 13 and positioned below the latter. This clamping member 12 as will be readily seen, is
adapted to engage a large jar, such as a quart size while the member 13 is adapted to engage the smaller fruit jars such as the pint size. It will be noted that the circular 45 clamping members 12 and 13 are offset as at 1 1 and 15 and terminate in handle members 16, whereby the circular clamping members 12 or 13 may rigidly engage the side walls of a jar by the contraction of the handle mally extends vertically above the handle members 16.
' The wrench means l'lQIGlIlbQfOIG stated includes a circular member 19 having its end portions terminating in spaced parallel handle members 20, a supporting bar 21 having its ends secured to diametrically opposite sides of the circular member 19. In order to provide a pivotal mounting for said wrench engaging means, there is provided a yoke 22 having its free ends looped as indicated at 22 and engaging the transverse bar 23 of the inverted U-shaped member 18. The opposite end of the yoke 22 is looped as indicated at 22 and pivotally secured to the transverse bar 21 as at at whereby the wrench engaging means may be swung into and out of position and may be owing to the pivotal mounting folded upon itself and the handle members 16 whereby the latter may be slipped in a drawer or the like.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportion and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A jar clamp and wrench provided with handle members, gripping portions therefor, a substantially inverted U-shaped member provided with laterally offset extremities pivotally mounted upon the handle members of the clamp, a plate member carried by the wrench, and a yoke pivotally mounted upon the U-shaped member and connected with the plate upon the wrench.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
PAUL COLE.
