The apparatusseeks to" avoid the use of heated irons,'as such ironsput a glossy finishonthe. bands or ties, and the usual apparatus for pressing suits is too cumbersome to press'articles of this nature.
The present invention therefore has for an object the provision of a small pressing apparatus for pressing articles of relatively narrow width, with means "for heating the apparatus by means of steam and from which steam is emitted during the pressing operation, against the article being pressed, which facilitates the pressing operation.
Still other objects in view are means for drying the steam as it is admitted to the heating apparatus and for separating the condensation from the steam as it is formed in the apparatus.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure 1 is a. view in elevation, of my invention applied to asteam boiler;

In the accompanying drawings the pressing apparatus 1 is shown connected to a steam boiler 2 by suitable piping 3, and a valve 4 to permit steam from the boiler 2 to enter the pressing apparatus 1 as desired. The bOiler-Q'maybe of any type of steam boiler used in cleaning andpressing establishments, for supplying steam or hot water, the connecting I pipe 3 preferably being a coupled to the boiler, adjacent the top there'- of, so'that the steam is as dry as possible when admitted to the pressing apparatus.
The pressing apparatus 1 consists of a cylindrically shaped casing or drum 5 formed into an upper or dry steam chamber 6 and a lower or wet steam chamber 7 by a horizontal partition or wall 8 with a communicating passageway 9 at one end. The chamber 7 receives the steam from the boiler through a port 15, in a more or less wet or saturated condition, and in: order to moisten the article to be pressed with dry, hot steam, it is desirable that the excessive moisture in the steam be removed. For this reason the pressing pparatus 1 is provided with the chambers j 6 and 7' respectively, the lower chamber 7 receivingthe 'steamfin a wet condition and in which a consequent expansion in volume takes place with a reduction in temperature and pressure, thereby causing themmsture- '1n't-he' stean'1 to condense. and. the'condensate to" collect' in the bottom of the chamber. The steam then, passes through the pasageway 9 to the chamber 6 in a relatively dry condition and is emitted therefrom through the small openings 12 arranged in the top thereof, longitudinally, from side to side of the casing or drum. These openings are relatively small so that as little moisture as possible will pass therethrough with the steam, any moisture being presentin the dry chamber gravitating to the lower chamber by means of the passageway 9. The ends of the drum 5 are provided with raised beads 13 to press and straighten the lateral edges of the article when being pressed and to retain the article therebetween. The steam thus admitted to the pressing apparatusheats the apparatus to approximately the temperature of the steam, the casing or drum 5 being formed of any desired metal which will readily transmit the heat from the steam within the drum to the outer pressing surface, which is the outer surface of approximately theup per half 14 of the drum or casing.
. The pressing operation is accomplished by drawing the article to be pressed back and forth over the pressing surface of the apparatus first one side and then the other be ing placed downward over the row of holes 12 in the top thereof. To accomplish this the article is gripped at the ends byrthe operator, one'end in each hand, and is alternately pulled downward by one hand and then by the other as shown in Figure 3. The outer surface of the drum is preferably polished and nickel-plated so that there are no rough places thereon, wherebythe pressing surface is smooth for drawing the article thereover.
Having described my invention I claim as pressing surface on the outer face thereof over which the articles are drawn back and forth when being pressed, a port admitting steam to said casing to heat the pressing sur face, a plurality of steam outlets in said pressing surface, and a partition wall in said casing dividing the casing longitudinally thereof into upper and lower chambers to prevent the direct passage of steam from said port to said outlets and an opening in the said wall remote from said steam inlet port to permit the passage of the steam from the lower chamber into the upper chamber and through the steam outlets in the pressing surface.

A. pressing apparatus comprising a casmg, a polished pressing surface on the outer face thereof, over which the articles are drawn back and forth when being pressed, a partition wall in said casing dividing the easing into longitudinal chambers, a steam inlet port in one of said chambers, a plurality of steam outlets in the other chamber extending through the pressing surface, and an opening in the said partition wall to permit the passage of steam from the one chamber to the other and through the steam outlets in the pressing surface.
3. A pressing apparatus comprising a casing, a pressing surface on the outer face thereof, over which the articles are drawn back and forth when being pressed, at partition \\all in said casing dividing the casing into longitudinal chambers, a steam port in one of said chambers and a plurality of steam outlets in the other chamber, the said chamber having the steam port constituting, a drying chamber for the steam and an opening between said chambers whereby the steam in a relatively dry condition may pass into the other chamber to heat the pressing surface and through the steam outlets to steam the article while being pressed.
