`.implication filed' .T anna-ry The invention relates toy meat slicing machines, and has for its object to provide a deflecting plate for the slicing machine which may be readily removed and replaced without the use of tools or manipulation of and bolts, with the result that many operators of slicingmachines will not take the time and trouble to remove the deflecting plate for freeing thesame of thev accumulationsl ofjdu'st,vdir t` and lsmall meat scraps,
consequentlyfthe rear sides of these plates,
aswell as the inner sides of the wings thereof,r are unsanitary, and it is practically impossible to clean these. surfaces withoutA removing the` plate, especially theside of the wing adjacent the cutting` disc, which on account of its close proximity to the cutting disc can not be properly cleaned without removal of they plate, consequently' itis generally in an unsanitary condition.r
' vAfurther object is to provide Athe deflecting plate fwith shafts having shoulders, which shafts have their outer ends rigidly attached to the plate and spring actuated latching means cooperating with the shoulders vof the shafts for holding the deflecting plate in rposition and means inconnection with l,the latchingmeans whereby all of the latching devices may be simultaneously movedv to inoperative position for `allowing removal of the deflecting plate.
A further object is to provide sleeves Q against which the inner ends of the shaft engage when the d'eflecting plate is placed `in position and coiledl springs surrounding said sleevesand compressed when the deflecting plate is forced. into position, said coiled springs also form means for forcing outwardly on the shafts when the plate-is being removed thereby allowing theplate to be easily and quickly removed, and assisting in the removal operation. Also to'provide means for limiting the outward movement' of the sleeves in registration with apertures through which enlargements carried by the shafts are received. l

Referring to' the drawing', the numeral 1 designates the frame of a meat slicing machine, and 2 a longitudinally movable carriage', on which meat is placed, and which carriage reciprocates for moving the meat intermittently against the rotatable cutting disc 3. Disposed adjacent the cutting disc 3' andextending upwardly from the frame l is a bracket 4, and all of which structure is rof a conventional form. It has been found where deflector plates areA used, they are always' secured in a manner whereby it requires tools of various kinds to remove the same for cleaning purposes, for instance they are secured by screws or bolts. Latching members ll are mounted on an upwardly inclined shaft '1 (3. the ends of which are rotatably mounted in bearings 17 et the casing i3, therefore it will be seen that when the operator arasps the knob itl, carried by the upper end ot the shaft 1G, and rotates the same, the lalehing,lr members 12 may be moved outwariglly to a position where the sha'lt S and the truste conically shaped shoulders 7 carried thereby may move outwardly through the apertures lil in the wall l2 ot the casing 13, consequently the delleetor plate 5, which carries the shafts 8, may be easily unlatched and removed. The lower end ot' the shaft 1G is provided with an arm Q0, to which is connected at 2i a coiled springl 22, and which coiled spring is anchored at 23 to the wall l2 ot the casing lil, therefore it will be seen that when the shaft '1,5 is rotated for moving the latching` members 1l, to inoperative position, the spring' will be stretched, and when the operating knob '1,8 is released, the spring' will move the latchingr members 1lA to a posi tion whereby, when the shafts are passed into the casing i3, the truste conieally shaped shoulders thereot will torce the latchingl members ll outwardly until they are released by the shoulders 9 passing beyond the noses l0 thereof, and at which time the detlecting plate will be in a position in engagement with the wall l2 of the easing l, therefore it will be seen the detlecting plate may be easily removed and replaced without the use of tools of any character.
Disposed within apertures l in the bracket extension 15, and the reduced apertures 25 are slidalole sleeves 2G, the outer ends oi which sleeves are provided with annular flanges L?, and interposed between the annu lar tlang'es E27 and the bottoms oit the apertures 2l are coiled springs E28, and which coiled springs normally force the sleeves 26 outwardly. The outward movement of the sleeves 26 is limited by the plate 29 secured to the outer tace of the bracket-extension l5. Shafts 8 are provided with cylindrical enlargements 30, which when the shafts are forced inwardly pass through apertures -ll. in the plate 29, and into engagement with the outer ends of the sleeves 26, therefore it will be seen that when the shafts 8 are forced inwardly the sleeves 2G are also forced inwardly and the coiled springs E24; compressed. lVhen the late/hing members .ll are moved to inoperative position, the springs let force the sleeves Q6 outwardly while in engagement with the cylindrical enlargements 3() of the shafts 8, and consequently the plate 5 is :forced outwardly thereby facilitating the removal oit the delleetor plate and the wing G carried thereby. The inner ends Si oi the sha'lts 8 preferably extend into the outer ends of the sleeves 26, thereby insuring an accurate seating` of the enlargements 30 against the outer ends oit the sleeves.
From tlu` above it will be seen that a securingr means for detleetor plates oi' meat slicing machines is provided, whereby the detlector plate and its wing may be easily and quickly removed from the machine without the use ot tools of any kind, and the detleetor plate and wing may be thoroughly cleaned and easily and quickly replacer in position, thereby allowing the rear sides of' the deflector plate and wing to be maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is zl. The combination with a plate and a support for said plate, of means 'for attaching;l said plate to said support, said means comprising.,r shafts carried by the plate, shoulders carried by the shafts, a rotatable operating shaft, latching .members carried by the ol'ieratingr shaft and cooperating with the shoulders when the plate is in position, spring means cooperating with the operatingr` shaft for maintaininggr the latching members in engagement with the shoulders, and means carried by the operating shalt and adapted to be grasped by the operator for rotatingr the operating,r shaft.
The combination with a plate and a support, oi means for attaching said plate to said support, said means comprising sha'lts carried by the plate, shoulders carried by said shafts, a rockable operatingr shaft, latching members carried by said operating shaft and cooperating with the shoulders, springr means cooperating with the, operat; ing shaft for maintaining the latching,r members in engagement with the shoulders and spring means cooperating with the inner ends of the plate shafts for forcing said last named shafts outwardly upon release of the latching members.
3. The combination with a plate and a support, of means for attaching said plate to said support, said means comprising; shouldered shafts carried by the plate, latchs ing members engaging over the shoulders of the shafts when in position, means for controlling said latching members, spring pressed sleeves engaging the inner ends of the plate shafts', said spring pressed sleeves forming means for forcing the plate shafts gutwardly upon release of the latching memers.

The combination lwith aplate and a support, of means for attaching said plate to said support, saidmeans comprising a casing carried by the support, a rock shaft in said casing, latching members carried by said rock shaft, bolts carried by the plate and extending into the casing, shoulders carf ried bysaid bolts and with which the latch- 20 chambers in axial relation to the bolts, coiled ing members cooperate, spring means for maintaining the latching members in operative positions, sleeves slidably mounted in springs surrounding the sleeves and forcing the same outwardly, lmeans for limiting the outward movement of the sleeves, and enlargements carried by the vplate shafts and adapted to engage the outer ends of the sleeves and compress the springs when the plate is forced to position on the support.
5. The combination with a plate and a support, of meansfor attaching said plate to said support, said means comprising shouldered shafts carried by the plate, latching members carried by the support, and spring means cooperating with the inner ends of the shouldered Vshafts whereby upon release vof the latching means said shafts will be forced outwardly.
