* UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELMORE RAY BUTLER AND WILLIAM T. SINGER, 0F TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
SHAVING-STICK HOLDER.
Application filed May 8, 1924, Serial No. 711,906, and in Canada March 22, 1924.
a The principal objects of the invention are to provide a shaving stick holder and container from which the stub of the stick may be easily removed, to enable refilling and in which a removable portion is produced at such a low cost as to warrant its being discarded. 1
The principal feature of the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of a pair of threaded cup members one of which is threaded to the'stick of soap, whereby access to the head of the inner mem ber is obtained through an opening in the outer member to enable the members to be screwed apart.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of our improved shaving stick holder assembled.
Figure 2 is a perspective detail of the outer cap.
Figure 3 is a perspective detail of the inner cap shown attached to the shaving stick.
Figure 4 is a perspective detail of the container.
Shaving stick containers have been devised in which the stick of soap is secured in a cap to which a threaded container is secured but when the soap is used down to the metal cap, the soap cannot be easily extracted and the present invention has been devised to overcome this difliculty.
The desired result is accomplished by forming a metal cap 1 of thin sheet metal, preferably aluminum, with a rolled threaded flange 2 into whichthe soap stick is threaded.
The bottom of the cap is formed with a centrally arranged slot depression 8 adapted to receive the edge of a coin, a knife or other instrument to turn the cap.
An outer cap 4 is formed with a threaded portion 5 to receive the threaded portion of the inner cap 1 and is preferably formed with an enlarged annular portion 6 forming a finger grip.
The bottom of the cap 4 has a central circular opening 7 therein of greater diameter than the length of the slotted depression 3 in the inner cap so that a coin may be easily inserted into the slot in the inner cap, while the outer cap is held in the hand.
This arrangement enables the user to remove the inner cap from the outer cap in a very simple manner so that when the soap stick is worn down to the metal, the inner cap may be unscrewed from the outer cap and thrown away.
The soap sticks will be provided with inner caps secured thereon so that when the finished stub and inner cap are removed it is merely necessary to screw in a new stick.
The outer container 8 is of tubular form having a threaded portion 9 adapted to thread over the threaded portion 5 of the cap 4, said container being closed at the outer end. i
A holder such as described is extremely simple. The outer container and cap may be made as ornate and expensive as may be desired but the inner cap, which is furnished with'each stick of soap, is of a very cheap construction and as its value is infinitesimal it may be readily discarded.
What we claim as our invention is:
In a shaving stick holder the combinat-ion witha container threaded at one end, of a cap having a cylindrical wall presenting an internal and external thread, a shaving stick having one end threaded into and permanently secured in said cap, a cap presenting an internal and external thread adapted to be threaded on and enclose the aforesaid cap and to be threaded into said container, a slot depression in the head of said enclosed cap and an opening in the head of the enclosing cap uncovering said depression.
