ERECTING MACHINE FOR \VALL BOARDS.

My invention relates to improvements in erecting machines for wall-boards, and the object of my improvement is to furnish a device el'fectire for adj ustably supporting sheathing of this character. such as plasterboards for ceilings, so that the plates thereot' may be easily and accurately litted in place and may bethen secured rapidly to the supporting timbers therefor.
This object I have accomplished by the means which are hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of inven tion herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Wall boards, particularly those constructed of plaster, are bot-h bulky and heavy, be-
.inginconvenient to mount and fasten upon a wall or ceiling beams. With my device, both operations may be eiected quickly and easily by a'single workman, with a consequent economy of labor and time.
The device comprises a transportable supporting structure, and an adjustable table for the wall-board slidably reciprocable therein, with means for lifting or lowering the table, and means for adjustably inclining the table. l
The supporting structure comprises two spaced pairs of standards 1 mounted xedly between base-blocks 2 on plates 4 and secured by bolts 3. Boards 6 are mounted upon the base-blocks to front and rear of the standards 1. The interspaces of the base-blocks and of the pairs of standards 1 afford slideways for vertically reciprocable table slides 32 and leg-members 12 connected to the slides by means of bolts 11 without the standards 1. The members 12 support a. tiltably adjustable table-top made up of rigidly jointed longitudinal parallel trans? versely spaced bars 14 and divided sectional cross-bars 15, one set of the latter having a single upwardly extending rail or bar 16 secured upon the outer front ends thereof as a wall-board abutment.

the standard 12, and whereby a fastening bolt and compression nut 20 and 21 may be used to hold and fasten the table halves horizontal or in any adjusted tilted position, or with the halves of the table collapsed for any purpose, so that a plate of Wall-board 42 upon the table-top and abutting the abutment rail 16 may be apposed toceiling rafters whether the latter are horizontal or in any way slopingly arranged. Cross-blocks 33 are arranged to abut opposite faces of each set of slides 32 and standards 1 and secured by bolts 34 to the slides, to hold the slides in vertical positions in the slideways between the standards.
The transversely spaced standards 1 are rigidly connected at their tops at both front and jrear by longitudinal beams 7, crossbeams 8 being connected between the beams 7 abutting upon the inner faces of the standards 1, the beams 7 being secured by bolts 13. On the inner medial faces of the cross-beams 8 are fixed staples in which are hung the eyes of pulley- blocks 22 and 23 respectively over whose sheaves are reeved short cables 24 and 25, their inner ends being secured to opposite parts of a winding drum 26 to wind thereon. The other ends of said cables are secured to the inner ends of headed bolts 11 near the lower ends of the slides 32.
Longitudinal bars 9 connect the standards 1 on their front and rear faces and are secured thereto by bolts 10 and have thereon medial bearings 29 which seat a rotatable shaft 27' on which said winding-drum is se- On the same shaft is also fixed a ratchet-wheel 30 whose teeth are engaged by a pawl 31 of the gravity type rockingly mounted on a rio'id standard 29 rising from the upper membber of the bearing-box 29. The shaft 27 has an end crank 28 rovided with a handle.

The outer ends of these arms are rigidl connected by means .of a plank 36 thereon which serves as an elevated footing for the machine operator, while placin and fastening overhead wall-boards. he plank has near each end depending blocks 37 to which a pair of legs 40 are pivotally connected at 38. It will be seen that this footing is collapsible, b swinging the legs 40 past each other, an then the arms may be swung downwardly to lie vertically against their inner faces in front of standards 1 on which they are ivoted.
A sheet of wall-boar 42 having been placed upon the table-top and having one longitudinal edge abutting upon the rail abutment 16, the crank 28 may be used to rotate the winding-drum 26 to wind up the two cables 24 and 25 to thereby elevate the table to a desired height, the pawl 31 holding the. table at the desired height in thus keeping the plate 42 in contact with rafters or other supports to which it may be nailed -v by a workman without other help. The apparatus may be then shifted to another location, when the slides 32 have been lowered.
The tilting of the table-top adjustably permits it to hold a plate 42 against sloping rafters at different inclinations.
The device as a Whole is simple, strong' claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
An erecting machine for wall boards, comprising in combina-tion, a basal support, longitudinally spaced pairs of transversely spaced standards fixed upon said support, a
slide-beam slidably mounted between each pair of standards, a connecting device between the upper ends of the standards, pulleys supported on the end parts of said connecting device, spaced bars connecting the middle parts of said standards, a winding drum rotatably mounted on and between said bars, a ratchet-Wheel mounted on one end of said drum, a pawl rockably mounted upon one of said bars to movably engage teeth of said ratchet-Wheel under the iniuence of gra-yity, cables attached to said winding drum and directed oppositely therefrom around said pulleys and terminally fastened to the lowerl parts of said slidebeams, oppositely projecting arms adjust ably pivoted on the upper parts of said slide-beams, means for holding said arms releasably in different positions, and tabletop sections secured in parallel upon said arms to swing up and down, one section having an upwardly directed'rib along its outer longitudinal margin to serve as a stop thereon for wall board supported upon the sections.
