Thus far the apparatus described in the same as in the previous patent, but in said patent the oil discharge pipe 9 from the tank was arranged to lead directly tothe burner 10 in the firebox of the boiler; while the discharge steam pipe 11 from the top of the tank also leads direct to the burner. This was the arrangement which proved unsatisfactory in service and which I have changed. The discharge pipe 9 which is connected with the tank 1 a short distance below the oil level now leads to adjacent the bottom of a vertical tank 12 separated from the tank 1, the oil of course remaining therein at substantially the same level as in said tank 1, The steam pipe 11 leads down into the tank 12 from the top thereof and discharges at its lower end into a surrounding open topped cylinder 13 which is disposed in the tank preferably in concentric relation therewith and with the pipe. This cylinder is closed on the bottom and its top is above the oil level so that no oil will ever get into said cylinder, while the steam issuing from the pipe 11 is free to leave the cylinder from the upper end. The return or discharge steam pipe 14 from the top of the tank 12 leads to the burner 10, while the oil dis charge pipe 15 leads from the side of the tank 12 a certain distance below the normal oil level therein to the burner. The tank 12 is also provided with a draw-01f pipe 16 at the bottom.
In operation it will be seen that steam entering the tank 1 and engaging the cold oil therein imparts a certain amount of heat to the oil, but in so doing will be subjected to a great cooling influence tending to induce considerable condensation. This condensed will settle the bottom thereof from where as before it may be drained oil through a cock 1?. The steam at practically the same pressure then passes to the tank 12 tirough the pipe 11, where itimpinges against and heats the walls of the cylinder 13. This heat is imparted to the oil in said tank, but no great condensation of the steam will new result, since the oil is already somewhat heated before entering this tank. The steam issuing from the top of the cylinder and passing into the return pipe 1-4: is therefore in a fairly dry condition so that very little moisture of condensation is formed in the tank area above the oil to contaminate the same. Such condensation as is formed from the steam will take place when the steam engages the cylinder walls and before it issues from the cylinder, and the moisture will be confined in said cylinder, from which it may be drawn off when necessary through a bottom drain pipe 18. The oil passing to the burner through the pipe 15 is therefore in a clean and heated condition, while being still acted on by the steam pressure to cause it to be forcefully fed to the burner.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that l have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
' l'Vhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to se cure by Letters Patent is:
1. A fuel feeding system for an oil burner including a tank, means for feeding oil into the tank, a steam pipe leading into the tank to bear against and impart heat to the oil therein, another tank, oil passage means between the tanks, a steam pipe leadin into. the second named tank from the first named tank, a chamber in the second named tank into which the steam pipe therein discharges, said chamber being closed on the bottom and open on top above the oil level, an oil burner, an oil pipe leading from the second named tank to the burner, and a steam pipe leading from the top of said second named tank to the burner.
