ROCKING HORSE Filed Dec. 17. 1925 .I e iw,/ 4

, i Application filed December 17, 1925. Serial No. 76,032.
This invention relates in general to toys, and more, particularly to a rocking horse, and has for main object the provision of a: rocking horse ern iiodying rockers attached to the opposite ends of the body, and so arranged thatthe seat will move forwardly and backward ly in horizontal positions, and provided with means for rcnoering the same incapable of being thrown out of balance. Y
Another object is to provide arockinzg horse having abodyportion provided with a seat andl-icad', roclters pivotally attached at the front and rear ends" of the body, and bars parallel with the body and with each other and pivotal'ly cormected with the rockers whereby the movement of the body will at all times be parallel and incapable of being thrown out of balance.
Another object is to provide means whereby at the opposite extremes of movement the parallel bars of the body will come intoengagement for lin'i'itingthe movement of the body in opposite directions.
Other objects may appear, as the description progresses. a
In the ccompanying drawing I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, subject to modification within thescope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit thereof. 7
In said drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation, on a reduced scale, of my improved rocking horse; i
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. I
a rear elevation, partly Fig. 3 1 broken away; and
Fig. 4 is a away. i i
As shown in the drawings in a preferred form, my invention consists of a body composed of a pair of horizontal members B, B, spaced apart and positioned edgewise, between which is mounted a head-piece H which extends upwardly and forwardly from the body, a seat 5 of convenient form is attached to the upper edges of thebody members B, B and is recessed to receive the rear portion of the neck.
Near the upper end of the member H, I provide a bar it which is inserted in a bore in the member H and which is extended substantially from each of thesides thereof for providing handles by means of which the occupant of the seat S may cause the device to be rocked.
The members B, B, H
front elevation partly broken and are suitably attached together so as to provide rigidcon- 'nections therebetween. The members B, B are extended for ardly and rearwardly from the scat tiand at the rear ends thereof Iprovide a pair of rockers It, R which have Lloclrs A, Aattached' thereto, and the up-. per ends of the i'i'iembers A, A are .pivotally connected with the rear ends of the members 13 ,13 by means of a chain or rod 0.. v v The front of the device is provided with a similarrocker R which has an upwa irdly extending block A positioned between the front ends 2, 2, of the body members 13,: B, and said block is pivoted to saidmembers by means of a rod or 'fchain (a. The rockers R, R- at the rear, and the rockerfR" at the front of the device are connected by'means of horizontal members M, M, which are spaced apart and are connected to the front rocker by means of a pin or rod (Z which is extended substantially at the ends to providepedalsP, P. The rear ends of the members M, ,M are pivotally connected to a pin or rod f whichis journaled at the ends in the blocks A, A and in its intermediate portions in the members -M, M. I
It will be understood that the upper edges of the members M, M are parallel with the lower edges of the members B, B, and said members are spaced apart so as to provide ample movement forwardly and 'backwardly' of the upper portion of the device, including the members B,B., S and H." To this end the. members M, M and B, B are connected in parallel withthe rockers R, B so that during the movement of the device the members M, M and B, B are always in parallel. As shown in Fig. 1 in broken lines, when the body B is moved forwardly or backwardly to extreme positions, the upper. edgesof the members M,"M, which are in the same planes with the members B, B, will engage the front or rear-portions of the members B, B and thus prevent the further movement forwardly or backwardly, as the case may be, of the body and seat. This constructionprevents the over-balancing of the device andrenders it entirely safe for a child or others. p
Therear rocker axle f may be provided with washers NV, and cotter pins 3, 3, on
the outer sides of the members M, M, to.
prevent any lateral movement of the body with respect to the rockers R, R. Also, the members M, M, may be held in spaced position by means of blocks 7), b, at suitable positions, as shown. The head 11' extends The structure shown and described is' sutficiently strong to support a large adult without damage to the device or 1n ury to the person, and due to the fact that the de-- vice can not be thrown out of balance or tipped over during the operation thereof, it is perfectly safe for small children. 7
hat- I claim is:
1. A rocking horse comprising a body having a pair of horizontal members disposed edgewise, a head attached thereto and extended thereabove, a seat also attached to said members, a rocker pivotally attached to and between the front portions ot'said members, a pair of rockers pivotally connected to and outwardly of the rear portions of said members, and a pair of horizontal bars pivotally connecting said front and rear rockers and disposed edgewise in the plane of and adapted to engage said body members for limiting the movement of the body.
2. A rocking horse comprising a pair of spaced'body members, arranged edgewise and horizontally disposed, a seat attached to thetop thereof, and a head member attached between said members and extended thercabove, a block pivotally mounted between and on the front ends of said body members, a rocker attached to saidblock, a pair of similar blocks pivotally attached to V and outwardly of the rear ends of said body WILLIAM H. sir-mason.
