I will describe one form of apparatusembodying my invention, and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic view showing one form of apparatus embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View showing in more detail the structure of the switch shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view of the switch shown in Fig. 2.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts in each of the views.
Referring first to Fig. 1, the reference characters 1 and 1 designate the track rails of a railway track E which rails are provided with insulated joints 9 to form a track section A-B. The'reference characters 2 and 2 designate the track rails of a branchv track F, which rails are at times connected with the rails 1 and 1*, respectively, of the main track by a switch C. VVhenthe switch is in the normal position, in which it is shown in the drawing, traffic approaching the switch will proceed on the main track E, but when the switch is reversed traffic approaching the switch will enter the branch track F.

The rail 2 is provided with a jumper 3 which is connected with the rail on opposite sides of the short insulated'sectionprovided by the joints 9. Rail 2 is also connected with raill by a jumper 10.
Ordinarily the movable rail 1 of the switch C will not be electrically. connected with rail 2 when the switch is reversed, but if it is desirable to insure against such electrical connection, the movable rail 1 may be caused to rise from the ties when the switch is reversed, and this may be effected by means of a wedge-shaped member 6 of insulating material located on one of the ties 7, as shown in. Figs. 2 and 3.
As indicated hereinbefore, the apparatus shown herein is intended for co-operation with train carried governing mechanism which operates to give a proceed indication when the train occupies a section of track which is supplied with train governing current, but which operates to apply the brakes Assuming that switch C is in the normal position, a train moving towardthe right will receive train governing current throughout section A--B provided that contact 4 is upon the cessation ofsuch current unless the 1 engineer acknowledges. i
.up'to the insulated joints 9, and consequently, it will not be necessary-for the engineer to acknowledge upon entering the branch track F.
Although I have herein shown and 'described only one form of apparatus embodying my invention, it is understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein 'within the scope of the appended claimswithout departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my lnvention, what I claim is:
1. In combination, a section of main track having rails? 1 and 1, a branch track havino' rails 52 and 2* connected at times with said rails 1 and 1 respectively by a switch, insulated joints on opposite sides of the frog at the point where rail 2 crosses rail 1, a jumper in rail 2 around said joints, and a second jumper connecting rail 1 with the rail 2* between said joints and said switch.
2. In combination, a section of main track having rails 1 and 1 a branch track having rails 2 and 2 connected at times with said rails 1 and 1, respectively by a switch, insulated joints on opposite sides of the frog at the point where rail 2* crosses rail 1, a jumper in rail 2 around said joint-s, a second jumper connecting rail 1 with the rail 2 between said joints and said switch, and means for connecting rails 1 and 1* electrically when said switch is reversed.
3. In combination, a section of main track having rails 1 and 1 a branch track having ra ls and 2 connected at times with said rails 1"and 1 respectively by a switch, insulated joints on opposite sides of the frog at the point where rail 2 crosses rail 1, a jumper in rail 2 around said joints, a second jumper connecting rail 1 with the rail 2 between said joints and said switch, means for insulating rail 1 from rail 2 when said switch is reversed, and means for electrically connecting rails 1 and 1 together when said switch is reversed. a
