Description

May 24, 1927. I L J. DUPREY MASSAGE VIBRATOR Filed Sept. 23. 1925 Patented May 24, 1927.
UNITED STATES IPA-TENT OFFICE.
LOUIS JOSEPH DUPREY, OF DOBCHESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF '10 HUBER! S. JAMES, F BBOOKLINE, MASSACHUSETTS.
MASSAGE: vrnna'ron.
Application filed September 23, 1925. Serial No. 58,075.
My invention relates to massagev vibrators of the type adapted to be carried on the back of the operators hand and which do not employ a flexible shaft connecting the same with a motor supported by a wheeled pedestal. Y
The objects of my invention are to provide a massage vibrator having means for regulating the degree of vibration, together with a hinged casing surrounding said means whereby the adjustment of the regulator may be quickly and conveniently effected; and also to provide a vibration regulator which may. be readily removed from the motor sition to control the degree of vibration. A.
hinged casing surrounds the vibration regulator, and the face thereof preferably is per- 7 forated so,that when the regulator is replaced by a fan to convert the device into a drier, the current of air will pass through the perforated casing.
One embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a massage vibrator embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section, certain parts being shown in elevation;
Fig. 3 is .a front elevation showingthe hinged casing opened;
Fi 4 is a front elevation showing a fan attac ed to the shaft. to convert the device into a drier.
In the particular drawings. selected for more fully disclosing my invention, 10 represents a. small electric motor secured to' the base plate 11 which-has blocks of soft rubber 5 12, 12 arranged on the lower surface thereof for transmitting the vibration to the hand of F shaft and replaced by a fanfor converting 17 is a slotted arm 18 having the weight 19 arranged in its slot and adapted to be held in adjusted radial position by means of the a nut 19' to govern thedegree of vibration.
A protective casing 20 encloses the end of the motor shaft and the vibration.regulator,
and in order to provide easy access to the latter, said casing is divided into two halves connected together by the hinge 21 which is attached to the front end of the motor by the bracket 22. The two halves of said casing are held in closed position by the pin 23 which passes through eyelets 24', 24 in the two halves of the casing and has threaded engagement, as shown at 25, with the front end of the base 11, a knurled head 26 referably being employed for removing and inserting said pin. .7
It will be noted that my construction en, ables the operator to expose the vibration regulator conveniently and quickly when it is desired to change the position of the weight 19. 1
Preferably the front face of the casing is perforated, as indicated at 27, so that when a fan such as 28 is substituted for the arm 18 in order to convert the device into a drier, the currents of air will pass through said casing.
Having thus described an illustrative em- 'bodiment'of my invention without however limiting the same thereto, what I claim and desire to secure by LettersPatent is:
i 1. A massa e vibrator comprising in 00111 bin'ation an efectric motor, a rigid shaft for said motor, an arm rigidly attached directly to said shaft at right angles thereto, a wei ht, means for securing said weight to saif arm in adjusted radial position to re late the degree of vibration, and means or applying said motor to the back of the operators hand.
2. A massage vibrator comprising in combinationa'base adapted to be supported on the back of the hand of an operator, an electric motor mounted upon the base, a rigid 6 shaft for said motor, a vibrator arm secured to said shaft radially thereof, a weight adjustably secured to the vibrator arm and means for securing the base and its attached motor to the hand of the operator.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto 10 subscribed my name this 22nd day of September, 1925.
LOUIS JOSEPH DUPREY.
