PATENT f OFFICE. ii
smnw EXTRACTOR.
Application mea July 2s, 192e. serial No. 125,413.
This invention relates to a sinew extractor of the type shown by the Congdon Patent, No. 941,759, dated November 30, 1909, said extractor consisting or' a base adapted to be on the side adjacent to the foot-holder, the.
jaws being adapted to engage an enlarged fleshy portion of a owls leg below the footholder when the lever` is raised, and operating to separate the leg from the foot and extract the sinews when the lever is moved downward, all as more particularly set forth by the Congdon patent.
The present invention is an improvement on the device of the Congdon patent, and is embodied in a foot-holder formed to en? gage the bony portions or' legs of different sizes, and a multiple claw on the lever, also formed to engage the bony portions of legs of different sizes, so that the extractor may operate on* larger or smaller legs, without adjustment of any of its parts, and without liability of the wedging adhesion Vof a brohenl otl' foot and leg portion to the arm.
Ot' the accompanying drawings forming f a part of this specification,-
Figure 1 is a front elevation'of a sinew Aextractor embodying my improvement, the
lever being fully lowered.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same..
Figure 3 is a side elevation, showing the lever raised, and the foot holder and two of the prongs engaged with a larger leg, the sinews being partly extracted.
Figure 4 is a, view similar to Figure 3,
" 'showing the foot-holder and two of the prongs engaged with a smaller leg.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the figures.
a designates a base adapted to be secured to a wall by screws or otherwise. designates a foot-holder which is an arm or bracket projecting forward :trom the baseby Figures 3 and 4, and the adjacentedges 'i of said recess are beveled and provided withv a sharp -edge on the upper side of the lower finger over lwhich the legv may .be easily broken,` as shown by the- Gongdon patent.
0. designates the handlever connectedibv a pivot 02, to ears on the base, the pivotal connection being arranged as heretofore, below and at one side of the foot-holder.
yThe leg-engaging member in the Congdon patent is a claw, arranged onand rigidly' attached Vto the lever c near its pivot, and
projects laterally from that sid-e of the lever adjacent the foot-holder, so that-When the lever is fully raised on its pivot, the claw engages the leg below the foot-holder, and
then, as the lever is moved downward, the
fleshy part of the leg is drawn down, while the bony part remains fixed in` th-e footholder, so that the sinews are extracted from the fleshy part or' the leg, as described by the Congdon patent. f
In carrying 'out the present invention, I provide the foot-holder recess with a wider outer portion, formed by parallel recess edges 12, 12 constituting outer jaws, spaced apart to receive between themv the bony portion Z of a larger leg adjoining the foot e,
as shown by Figure 3, and anarrower inn-er portion, formed by parallel recessedges 13, 13 Vconstituting innerjaws, spaced apart to receive between them the bony portion of a smaller leg, as shown by Figure 4. The leg shown by Figure 3, may be that of a tur hey, and the leg shown by Figure 4, that of hen.
I also provide the lever c with'a multiple claw, composed of two end prongs 14 and 15, and an intermediate prong 16. The end prong 14 is spaced from the intermediate prong 16, by a recess, thevedges of which constitute outer jaws adapted to engage the bony portion Z of a larger leg adjoining the fleshy portion f, as shownby Figure. 8,
while the end prong 15 is spaced from the. intermediate vprong by a recess, theedges of which constitute inner jaws adapted to engage the bony portion of a smaller leg, as shown by Figure 4. The operator, may,
therefore, use the outer jaws of the arm b l and the outer jaws formed by the claws 14 and 16 on a relatively large ,legf and the inner jaws of the arm and the inner jaws formed by the claws 15 and 16 on a smaller leg. j j
a:The parallelism of the outer and innerv arm vjaws formed bytheedges-lQ, V12 and 13, 1 3,
, nient with the bodyI portionl adjoining the foot, so that the broken-off leg portion ed! hering to the foot is not liable to Khfrvrelza` ivedging adhesion to the arm, and drops freely from the arin afterthe sineivfextraeb ing operation. If the edges of the arm recess Wereinelinen relative toeach other, to forni :i nedge-sha-ped recess, the broken off leg portion adjoining the foot lwould be liable `to adhereto the erin :ind require foreible .pulling out by the operator, so that 'loss ofl time would be involved.
