Application filed January 18, 1924. Serial No. 687,136.
The. present invention relates to electric therapeutical apparatus and has for its object to provide a portable apparatus for generating low frequency and hi h tension electric currents for therapeuticaT purposes, said apparatus also including means supporting the patient undergoing treatment, and means for applying the electrlc currents to the patient.
In the accompanying drawing wherem an approved embodiment of the invention 1s illustrated Figure 1 is a diagrammatic vlew of the electric circuit comprising the apparatus v Figure 2 is a perspective View of the invention applied to use;
The apparatus hereinafter described 1s adapted for use with alternating current whereby to facilitate the utilization of a transformer, but it will be readily 'understood that with a suitable current interrupting device, direct currentmay be'utilized for the purpose.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
1., numeral 3 indicates a casing adapted to house the electrical a paratus and 4 is av single pole connector t irough which current from the apparatus is conducted to the conductor 5, through electrical connections of :m the blanket or cover, the latter being adapted to overlie a patient, reclining upon a. chair or other suitable support. The chair is formed of material having a requisite degree of electrical resistance to high tension current to which the patient is subjected.
The circuit illustrated in Fig; 1 includes 7 two electrical connectors 13 and 13' in the form of sockets or the like adapted to selcctively receive plugs (not shown) having contacts connected with a suitable feed circuit. U
The transformation of the ratio of the system is usually commonly 7 used in the secondary for'culrents of z -frequency of cycles are generally as 1 follows: a Volta. 12, 250

The current from the connector 13 passes through the fuse 15 to the adjustable resistances 16 and through the contl'olswitches the second adjustable resistance 16 through the other fuse 15', bridged conector 13' to the primary winding 11 of the transformer 19 through the The terminal of the which the conductor nected to the core of the transformer 19 and the convolut-ions of said winding 11 are arranged in groups; the several groups beconductor 18. primary winding 11 to ing connected respectively by conductors 20;;
21 and 22 with "movable contact elements 20, 21' and 22', to be thrust into engagement with a contact bar 23, connected by a conductor 24 with an ammeter 25 which latter is connected by a conductor 26 with the circuit connector 13. Various lengths of the primary winding 11 may be connected in the circuit by actuation of the proper movable contact elements 20, 21 or 22. I
The secondary winding 12 of the transformer is also connected to the transformer core 19 at the point 27 and the other end 28 thereof is connected by a conductor '29 with the connector 4 on the casing 3, thecurrent being conducted by the connector 4 to the blanket or cover through the conductor The cover is preferably constructed of two rubberized or waxed fabric sheets arranged one above the other and having arranged therebetween, a suitable flexible conductor which is connected with the terminal of the 18 is attached, is con% the latter being adapted ill electric circuit arranged in said ca'sin said circuitincludin a current c0nnector inde- 'pendently opera ble switches adapted to separately control said circuit and arranged on op(posite sides of the casing a transformer inclu ing primary and secondary windings, said primary winding being interposed in said circuit, one end of each winding being grounded on the core of said transformer, and the otherend of the secondary winding ductor for applyingelectrical currents to a connection with a con- 2. An apparatus in claim 1 characterized b the provision of fuses in- 4. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 terposed 1n sai circuit. characterized by the provision of means for 3.
