In the drawings 10 represents the builder lever swingabl y mounted on the stud 11 fixed to the machine framing 12. A follower roll 13 rotatable on a stud fixed to the builder lever coacts with the main builder cam 14 whereby an up and down motion is imparted to the spindle rail 15 through its connection by means of the chain 16 with the builder lever and thus effecting the main winding of the yarn on the bobbin. Rotary motion is imparted to the cam 14 by the shaft 17 bunch as wound by successive short traverses V on which it is fixed, said rotatable in bearings supported on the framing of the machine receives its motion through suitable connections with the power transmit-ting means (not shown inthedrawings) of the m h n Fixed to the shaft is an auxiliary cam 18 which coac ts with a follower i611? l9rotatable in bearings afiixed to the upper end of a vertical rod 20 slidably mounted in a stand 21 bolted to themachine frame. While the wind of the yarn on the bobis accomplished through the action ofthe cam 14 on its follower roll 13 the latch 22 hangs clear of the abutment 23 on the builder lever and the follower roll 19 is out of contact with the auxiliary cam 18. With the depression of the builder lever by the foot of the operative the knock-off finger allows the latch to swing to a perpendicular position abutting the top of the lug 23 and thus pushing follower roll 19 upward into contact with the auxiliary cam 18, which functions to control the traverse of the yarn in forming the bunch on the bobbin. An adjusting screw 33 operates in the lower end of the latch whereby the amount of separation between the contact surfaces of the main builder cam and its follower roll may be regulated.
The auxiliar cam 18 is of the compound type with a p urality of throws whereby a corresponding plurality of reciprocations are imparted to the builder lever for each revolution of the cam and the yarn is there by wound a corresponding number of short traverses on the bobbin into a bunch 34L with a flat crowning surface such as shown in Figure 4.
A knock-off cam 35 fixed to the shaft 17 is provided with a working point 36 which coacts with a stud 37 adjustably mounted on the knock-off lever whereby the latter is swung on its fulcrum and in consequence the knock-off finger pushes the latch 22 from its abutting relation with the builder lever thus transferring the movements of the builder lever from the influence of the preliminary winding cam to the main winding cam.
I claim:
1. A bunch builder mechanism for spinning frames, in combination, a swinging builder lever, a shaft rotatable in bearings fixedly connected to the frame of the machine, a cam fixed to said shaft for normally operating the builder lever for eifecting the main winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a supplementary cam also fixed to said shaft effects the preliminary winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a device slidably mounted in a stationary part of the machine in a coacting engagement between the builder lever and said supplementary cam, and means for disengaging said device from its coacting engagements.
2. A- bunch builder mechanism for spin ning frames, in combination, a swinging builder lever, a shaft rotatable in bearings fixedly connected to the frame of the machine, a cam fixed to said shaft for normally operating the builder lever for effecting the main winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a supplementary cam also fixed to said shaft effects the preliminary winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a device slidably mounted in a stationary part of the machine and movable in and out of engagement with the supplemental cam. and builder lever, means for automatically effecting the disengagement of the device and manually operated means for efiecting its re-engagement with the sup plemental cam and builder lever. c

A bunch builder mechanism for spinning frames, in combination, a swinging builder lever, a shaft rotatable in bearings fixedly connected to the machine framing, a cam fixed to said shaft normally operating the builder lever effects the main winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a supplementary cam fixed to said shaft for effecting the preliminary winding of the yarn on the bobin, a member slidably mounted in a stand fixed to the framing of the machine, the upper end of said member adapted to coact with the supplemental cam, a latch hinged to the lower end of said member adapted to abut against a lug in a fixed relation with the builder lever, and means for disengaging said latch from its abutting relation with the builder lever.
4. A bunch builder mechanism for spin ning frames, in combination, .a swinging builder lover, a shaft rotatable in bearings fixed to the machine frame, a cam fixed to said shaft normally operating the builder lever efiecting the main winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a supplementary cam fixed to .said shaft for effecting the preliminary winding of the yarn on the bobbin, a member slidably mounted in a stand fixed to the framing of the machine, a follower roll attached to the upper end of said member and adapted to coact with the supplemental cam,
a latch hinged to the lower end of said member, a lug on the builder lever against which the latch is abutt-able, a knock-off lever pivoted to the framing of the machine, a k'nocln ofi finger, one end of which is adjustably mounted on the lower part of the knock-off lever and the other end is in an abutting relation with the said latch, a knock-off cam fixed to rotatable shaft coacts with a stud 011 knock-off lever to disengage said latch, and a flexible connection between knock-off lever and builder lever efiects the reengagement of the latch with the builder lever.
