produce a combwhich may be employed insuch a manner that either the coarse teeth or-the fine teeth maybe brought into instant use by a simple manipulation of'the' wrist. 1 I 10 vA further object is toprovide a comb having a central portion acting as a hand hold and so constructed that the comb may be manipulated without the danger of dropping, even though the hands be slippery, as a hair dressers often are when shampooing and the like. A further object is to provide anchor teeth atboth ends of the two sets of teeth, which anchor teeth serve to prevent breaking of theteeth.
' A still further object is to provide a comb which is sanitary, economical to manufacture and one which is pleasing in appear Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description. v In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
' Figure l 1s a side elevation of my improved comb,
Figure 2 is a top'plan view of Figure '1 and,
line 3+3 of Figure 1. At present time it is customary to provide both fine and coarse teeth upon the same side of the comb, the result beingthatwhen the user wishes to go from the fine teeth section being disposed in opposite directions. I As a result of this construction a personmay grasp the comb between the thumb and first finger of the hand and by simply rotating Figure 3 is a cross section taken on the.
of the fine section and the teeth of the coarsethe comb in avertical plancgeither the tine 56 I section or the coarse section of the combmay be brought into use. 1 d hen in one position the entire comb will lie above the hand, while in other position a part of the comb willlie within the hand, 60
similar to the present day manner of using a comb. Referring to the drawings, the letter A refers to the coarse section, the letter B the fine section and theletter G the hand hold 7 section. It will be noted by viewing Figures 1 and 2, that the hand hold section is provided with ribs 5 and 6 diagonally 'dis osed upon the opposite sides of the handheld section. The teeth '7 of the coarse section, point upwardly as shown in Figure 1,'while' the teeth 8 of the fine section point, downwardly, the
result being that when the operator grasps thecombby the hand hold section, allowing the thumb to rest upon one side thereof" and the first'finger'resting upon the other side thereof, a firm gripv will be. had due to the ribs 5 and 6. c If the thumb and finger engage the handle at substantially the point 30 9, the fine section B will lie within the hand,
therefore any downward pressure upon the coarse section will automatically move the back of the fine section against the palm of the hand, the thumb and finger acting as a fulcrum. I
Suppose it is now desired to usethe fine section, the same is swung'upon the fingers,
the fingers remaining intheir same position with the result that the fine section will ,be I
moved into the position where the teeth, are- ,pointing upwardly and the coarse section will move into the position pointing downwardly, but they will now rest on top ofthe hand and the second finger will restunder the hand hold section at approximately the p point 11, therefore the comb can again be gripped very securely as the ribs 5 and 6 will- ,1 prevent the slipping of the fingers from the i hand hold section that will enable the, opera- 9 tor to hold the comb tightly against the second finger and theback of the hand.
lVe have been assuming that the comb was being used in such av manner that the teeth of the portion being used were pointing upwardly. \Ve will now assume that the comb is turned over upon a horizontal axis, the direction of the slant of the ribs It Will further be noted that I have pro-\ vided the anchor teeth 12 adjacent the ends of both the fine section and the coarse section, which anchor teeth serve to prevent the breaking of the teeth as isnoW quite common in many forms of combs.
Having thus described my invention,'I claim In a comb, a coarse section, a fine section, a hand hold section connecting said coarse section and said fine section, said hand hold section having outstanding ribs formed on the opposite sides thereof and diagonally disposed With relation to the teeth thereof, and the teeth of said coarse section and said fine section being disposed in opposite direotions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JUAN E DIOS MORENO.
