Description

April 5- 1927' J. R. TATE SPING CLIP HANGER Filed May '7, 1926 Patented Apr. 5, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES R. TATE, OF LOWELL, ARIZONA.
SPRING-CLIP HANGER.
Application filed May 7,
My invention relates to a spring clip hanger and has fory its principal object the provision of a relatively simple, practical, and inexpensive device that may be advantageously employed as a hanger for engagingr and suspending from a suitable support, various articles such as hats, clothing, curtains, and the like. f
In carrying out my invention, I employ the ordinary spring clothes pins that are readily obtainable in the open market and arranged on the upper end of one of the jaws of the clothes pin a substantially tubular member, preferably formed of sheet metal, and which member is provided at its upper end with an upwardly and outwardly projecting hook having a pointed end so that it may bereadily passed through fabric, leather, orythe like, or forced into wood or plaster.
With the foregoing and other objects 1n view,v my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangementv of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a spring clip hanger of my improved construction.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hook member that is applied to the upper end of one of the jaws of a spring clothes pin.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the device'with the upper portion of one of the legs of the clothes pin andthe hook that is positioned therein, invertical section.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken approximately on the line itt 0f Fig. 1.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 and 11 designate the wooden members that form the jaws of an ordinary spring clothes pin, and which jaws are held in cooperative relation by the armsof a spring 12 that is arranged so as to force the lower ends of the jaws toward each other with yielding pressure. Positioned on the upper end of jaw 10 is a substantially tubular shell or sleeve 13 that is pressed from suitable sheet metal and projecting upwardly from the outer wall of this shell or sleeve is a hook 14, the end 1926. Serial No. 107,407.
as fabric, leather, soft wood, or plaster. The f shell or sleeve l13 is securedto member 10 by means of a pin or rivet 17 that passes through the front and rear walls 0f said shell and through the body of jaw 10.
The hanger thus constructed is adapted for engaging and suspending various articles and to use the device, the upper ends of the jaws are pressed toward each other to permit the object that is to be suspended to be positioned between andclamped by the lower ends of the jaws 11 and V12. The pointed end 16 of the hook is now pressed through or into the object from which the clip and the engaged member are to be suspended, and thus a very simple, practical and efficient springI clip hanger is provided.
The hook portion ofthe device may be easily and cheaply produced by' reason of the fact that it can be stamped from sheet metal and when applied to one of the jaws of an ordinary spring clothes pin, a very j convenient and is produced. Y
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction kof the various parts of my improved spring-clip hanger may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention l:
The combination with a spring clothes pin, of a sleeve positioned on the upper end of one of the jaws of the clothes pin, a rivet passing through said sleeve and through the jaw on which it is positioned, a hook formed integral with the upper'end of the outer wall of said sleeve and projecting upwardly, out` wardly and thence downwardly vand the free end of which hook is provided with asharp point.
