Thisvinvention relates to ornamental -at-H tachmentslifor lighting'fixtures or the like,' andffhasfp'articul'arI reference to devices ofthatgeneral character-*wherein different de-I signsf can y be arranged or provided* with maximum ease and facility.
Among the objects of this invention is to -providirany ornamental ,attachment embodying a plurality of pendants of any suitable character or design, and strong metallic means for supporting the pendants in such manner as to secure the most effective appearance or' arrangement of the pendants f parts in the several views, and' in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 1 but with the pendants removed.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view of the invention.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, I show my invention as used in connection with a lighting fixture 10 which may be supported in any suitable manner as by a tube 11. It is to be understood that a lamp is to be received within the fixture, but that being entirely conventional, it has been omitted from the drawings. The fixture includes a frame member such as the annular flange 12 which is provided with engaging means in the form of holes 13. A
r pair of fiexible pendant-supporting members or chains 14 are suspended from the frame member at the holes 13, as by engagingadjacent links at the holes. The chain 14 are on diametrically opposite sides of the fixture. Chains 15 are then connected to chains 14 at the points 16 in spaced relation to the fiange 12 .and in such manner as to -form a festoon having four .equal loops preferably symmetrically arranged with respect to each r other. The direction of pendency of each of 18 at points 20. This constitutes the innert portion of the festoon and provides what is in the nature of a square having diagonals disposed at o to those of the square formed by chains 14 and 15, as may be seen in Fig. 3. This inner portion of the festoon is the lowermost portion thereof. Thus an interesting and harmonious .design is produced wherefrom the ornamental pendants can be suspended.
The great virtue' of this invention and the characteristic which distinguishes it from everything that has heretofore been done lies in the fact that a reliable metallic 4fastening is provided which permits of the highest degree of variability for the production of different designs and to support the pendants in uniformly spaced relation to each other. These objects are secured by the use of the chains as described.
The individual links may assume any desired form, but preferably consist of a single wire bent to form a main loop 21 and a locking loop 22, the latter of which is relatively small compared to the former and lies in a plane at an angle to the plane of the main loop. The wire is comparatively thin to permit of easy manipulation or opening of the locking loops as shown in Fig. 4 for attachment or detachment to any member or chain as the particular design to be constructed may demand. The wire is, however, of sufhcient strength to withstand an weight to which it may be subjected, an the surface thereof is ornamented in a suit- .able manner. Pendants 23 of any desirable form, but, for purposes of illustration, consisting of two parts are suspended from the chains by means of wire hooks 24 which are interlocked with the individual links, as, for instance, at the locking loops 22. It will be noted that any number of chains may engage each other at a particular point or origin. Tf the pendants are all alike, they assume a formation as determined by the design of the festoon. A plurality of pendants are `suspended directly from the flange 12 by means of holes 25 spaced uniformly and arranged to engage the hooks 24 of the pendants to be supported thereby in a circular formation.
I claim:
l. An ornamental device comprising a frame member, a chain suspended from said member at the ends thereof and consisting of a plurality of links, and a plurality of pendants hanging from said chain at the individual links.
2. An ornamental device comprising a frame member, a chain suspended from `said member at the ends thereof, said chain consisting of a plurality of links each of Which has a double loop, adjacent loops of adjacent links being interlocked, and individual pendants hanging from individual loops of the links.
3. An ornamental device comprising a frame member, a plurality of (so-operating chains suspended from the frame member to provide a festoon, and a plurality of pendants supported from the festoon in spaced relation to each other.
4. An ornamental device comprising a frame member, a plurality of chains suspended from the frame member to form a festoon, the chains engaging each other to cause mutual deflections and curvature of the chains in a direction other than vertical, and a plurality of pendants hanging `from said chains in spaced relation to each other.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
AARON BLOCH.
