Description
March 29,19271 R. J. JAUCH FOOT BEST FOR SHOE SHINING STANDS Filed Sept. 24. 1924 7 INVENTOR BY 96 m ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 29, 1927.
UNITED STATES ROBERT J. JAUCI-I, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
FOOT BEST FOR SHOE-SHINING STANDS.
Application filed September 24:, 1.9241.
This invention relates to improvements in foot rests for shoe shining stands. and the object thereof is to afford a simple and inconspicuous means of clamping and holding the forward part of the shoe of the patron in place upon the foot rest during shining operations. Another object is to so construct the device as to admit of its operation by the patron as well as by the operator, and a further object is to provide such structure as will not obstruct the patron in approaching his position on the stand nor interfere with the movements of the operator.
These objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a structure embodying the invention; and
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the clamping means on the foot-rest viewed from the front thereof.
The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters. a
The invention comprises a standard 1 having a foot 2 at its bottom and a foot-rest 3 at its top, preferably formed of a single casting and may be of any suitable ornamental design. At the front end of the foot-rest 3 at one side thereof is an upwardly projecting jaw t, and at the opposite side thereof a pendant transversely disposed lug 5.
A plunger (5, consisting of a rod, extends longitudinally through the lug 5 and has sliding lengthwise movement therein. Upon one end of the plunger is fixed a jaw 7 that 0 projects upwardly beyond the upper face of the foot-rest 3 at the side thereof adjacent the lug. Upon the opposite end of the plunger is fixed a head 8, the top of which is flatand is positioned beneath the Serial No. 739,588.
front end of the goot-rest with its flat top closely adjacent to the bottom surface thereof so that turning movement of the head and its plunger is prevented. Interposed upon the plunger between its head 8 and the lug 5 is a compression spring 9 that acts to hold the plunger in its outermost position so that the jaw 7 is normally held firmly against the side of the foot-rest.
In the operation of the invention the patron places his foot upon the foot rest as in the customary manner, and then by pressing outwardly against the inner face of the jaw 7 with the sole of his shoe, it may thereby be moved outwardly sufficient so as to admit of positioning the opposite side of the sole against the inner face of the jaw 4. The sole of the shoe is thus positioned between the jaws and firmly held therebetween through the reaction of the spring, or, the operator, by pushing the plunger inwardly may reaclilv adjust the sole of the patrons shoe between the jaws. When the shoe is thus positioned and held upon the foot-rest, the ordinary polishing operations may be carried out without exertion of either the patron or the operator in maintaining the foot of the patron in proper position upon the foot-rest.
Vhat I claim is A toe clamping device for a foot-rest consisting of an immovable jaw projecting upwardly at one side of said rest; a pendant lug on the foot-rest at the side thereof opposite said immovable jaw; and a spring pressed movable member slidably mounted in said lug having a jaw disposed opposite the former jaw and having also a head with a flat face bearing against the lower face of said rest operable to prevent turning movement of said movable member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ROBERT J. JAUCH.
