IMPROVEMENT IN BROILERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,152, dated April 20, 1875; application filed March 29, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY J. OHAMBERLIN, of the city and county of \V'orcester, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have int'ented certain new and useful Improvements in Broilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 represents a top or plan view of my broiler. Fig. 2 represents an edge or side view. Fig. 5 represents a section on line A B, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a view of the handle end of the broiler on line B C, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 represents a top or plan view of one of the blank frames, as will be hereafter explained; and Fig. 6 represents a side view of a section of one end of the blank frame, as will be hereafter explained.

To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.

In the drawings, the part marked A constitutes the main or skeleton frame of each half of the broiler, and is made in a peculiar way, the wire being first rolled to flatten it, after which the edgesof certain portions of each section of wire required to make a blank frame, A, are notched, as shown at to, Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings, and these notches may be made before or after the wire has been bent into the form shown in Fig. 5. The part B, which forms the handle end of each half of the broiler, is pierced or punched with two holes, Z) I), to receive the handle-wire G O, the front ends of each handlewire being bent and clamped around and into the notched lapped ends B B of their respective frames A, as indicated in the drawings. By this arrangement a secure attachment is obtained for the handle of each half of the broiler, and that, too, without additional wires or rivets for securing the same to the other parts of the broiler,while the bent ends of the handle-wire serve as a secure fastening for holding the lapped ends B B of the frame A together. The handle of each section of the broiler is formed by bending the wire, as shown at O O. Separate wires D are employed in combination with the wires 0 O to fill up the frame A of each section of the broiler. The sections are held together at their front ends by means of rings E E, while a sliding clamp-wire, F, is employed for holding the rear ends together while the broiler is in use, said clamp-wire being slipped upon the handles in the ordinary way.

It will be observed that frame A is made from a single piece of rolled or flattened wire, the ends being lapped and united in a secure manner at one end. A frame thus made leaves its corners curved and smooth, thus obviating many of the objections to broilers made with separate end pieces, which are liable to be caught and pulled apart.

Having described my improvements in broilers, what I claim therein as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- I 1. The frame A, made of flattened or rolled wire, with notches a formed in the body of the wire, as shown and set forth.

2. The combination with the broiler-frame, made of a single piece of wire with lapped ends, as described, of the handle-wires passing through holes in one side of the frame, and bent and clamped around the lapped ends of the frame on the opposite side, as shown and described.

3. The combination, with the rolled or flattened wire frame A, having oneend, B, notched, and the other end, B B, lapped and notched, ot' the handle-wires O and separate wires D, constructed and combined together substantially as shown and described.
