The primary object of the present invention is to provide a device of the nature stated which will noty only raise the rods or r tubing from within the well but which will also lower the samey and carry them exteriorly `of the derrick. 1 n Another object of t-he present invention 1s y to provide such a device which will save bot-l1 time and labor in the pulling of rods and.v
tubing from wells thereby increasing the production of the wells at a reduction inthe cost of operating.

Carried by the platform 11 are the spaced guards 56 and 57 and by reference to Figure 4, it will be clearlyk seen that each et the said guardsis of substantially inverted V- shaped formation having the substantially vertical leg-58 and the slanting leg 59, vboth of said legs having the feet 60 by means of which the same may be secured to the plat "form -11. The lower run 61 of the endless cable 48 is arranged to pass between the legs y58 and 59 of the guards while the upper run 62v of the said endless ycable is positioned eXteriorly of the vguard and this construction is provided so as to prevent theArods being removed from the well from crowding 'the cable as they are lowered.
In the operation of the present invention, it will of course'be understood that as the reel 27 is rotated, in one direction, the cable 36 will be wound about the reel while the cable 42 is unwound,and as the reel is rotated in the opposite direction, the cable 42 will be wound about the reel while the cable 36 will bey unwound. Also, that the endless cable 48- travels at all times in the direction of rotation of the reel.
The numerals 63 yand 64- denote two rod vor tube 'sections and it will be. seen upon referencetoFigure 1' that the section 63 has been vremoved from the well and is held thereabove by the clamping member 43 while the section 64 is engaged by the clamping member 37 and islre'ady to be pulled. will also be noted that the hook 54 is engaged with the lower end of the section 63.
Let usk now assume that power 'is applied tothe drive pulley 34 through the medium ofthe belt 35 and thereel 27 is caused to rotate in an anticlockwise direction.. This rotation will cause the cable v36 to be wound upon the reel 27, the cable 42 to be unwound therefrom andv the endless cable 48 to be moved in an anti-clockwise direction. As the cable 36 is wound upon the section 28 of the reel, the rod vo r tube section 64 will 4be pulled from the well to assume the position of the sect-ion 63 shown in Figure 1.
`Simultaneous with this operation, the cable `42 will be -unwound from the section 29 and 'the endless cable 48 will move in an anti.-
V.same-outwardly so that the section will assume a horizontal position. When the scc tion is clear of the derrick, it can be detached from the clamp and moved to any :suitable place;v
When this operation has been completed, the section 64 will be in the position of the section 63 and the clamp43 which has been lowered, can then be secured to the neXt section to be pulled. The hook 53 is then secured to the bottom of the section 64 and the reel is operated in the opposite or clock- Vwise direction with the result that the cable be understood that various changes in the details of construction thereoi may be found desirable yandthat any such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to without departing from or exceeding the scope of the invention.l n l lVhat'is claimed is: i 1. A well rigging of the class described including a *derrick, a reel positioned adjacent the derrick, pulleys carried by the said derrick cables oppositely wound upon the said reel and trained over said pulleys whereby tosimultaneously raise and lower sections of rods or tubing, and means connected with the reel and operated upon rotationthereof'for drawing the section being lowered exteriorly of the derrick.V

A well rigging of 'the class described including a derriok, a reel positioned adjacent the derrick, pulleys carried by the said derrick, cables oppositely wound upon the said reel and trained' over said pulleys, clamping means carried by the free ends ot' said cables and adapted to engage sections of rod or tubing, means for operating said reelv whereby to cause the simultaneous raising and lowering of the said sections, an endless cable trained around said reel and operating therewith, and a hook carried by the said endless cable and adapted to be engaged with the lower end of the section to belowered, whereby upon the lowering of the said section the same will be drawn eXteriorly of the derrick bythe said hook carried by the endless cable fand moving therewith.
