PAPER-ROLL Carmina.
. Appiicatin inea March 2st-1924.v serial No. 762,055.-
Myinvention belongs to `that general class of devices known as roll holders, `and relates .particularly to a paper roll holder especially ada ted for carr ino` rolls of toilet )a 3er.v
.Y e l l 5 The invention has among` its objects the production ofv a device ofthe kind described thatr is simple, inexpensive, convenient, 'compact, durable, efficientand satisfactory for use wherever found applicable. It has particularly as an object the productionofa device in which the roll of paper may be easily and conveniently applied'or the empty .core or spool removed, and which device may vbe conveniently adjusted to regulate thepull required to rotate the roll and prevent spinning. of the'r'zon'struction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled inthe art from the disclosures 'herein given.
To this end'inyinvention consists inthe novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly vpointed out in the claims. f
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate. like or lco-rresponding`` parts: v
Fig. 1 is av side elevation andpartialsectional view illustrating my improvedvl device.; and y C v Fig. 2 is a sectional vViewtaken substantially Online 2.-. 2'of- Fig. 1. Refe'rringto the drawingspreferred embodiments of my `invention are shown, 1 represents .a suitable support Vsuch as a wall, rdoor or window frame, or the like, and 2 a shaft carried4 thereby. The shaft 2 is shown provided ywith a threaded for screw endso rthat the saine may be easily. applied to the support; and the saine also has an enlarged head, which, in the device shown, is in the form of a ring or eye 4. I have shown a bearing or spacer inember. 5 onthev shaft at the support.Arranged on the shaft is a reel member which I prefer to make out of sheet metal having some resiliency or spring action. The reel shown consistsof a strip bent to provide an end 7, one end of which is bent as indicated at 8, and thence bent as shown at 9, 10 and 11. The portions 7, 9 and 11 are provided with openings through which the shaft 2 passes, the opening through the portion 11 being preferably slotted as indicated at 12.
I have illustrated a tube 13 arranged on the shaft 2 between the portions 7 and 9, butV Many other objects kand advantages r in vwhich the -it should b e distinctly understood that this. Vmay be omitted, if desired,y as I have found.VK
that the saineis not 4in anyway essential to the successful operation of the device. I
have alsoY illustrated projecting tongues 20 on the portions 8 .and 10, which will tend to slightly ini'pinge in the spool 15 and which do not interfere with the. removal of the empty spool. These, however', are not essential, and they may be dispensedl withif desired. f
The paper is indicated by thenumeral 14,.
the saniebeing in the form of a roll and ymounted yon the customary core or spool 15,
lIt will be noted referring to Fig-1 that `the free end or the portion 7. of the reel is preferably of a length to engage withthe endof the paper vro-ll and spool, .thereby lini-i kiting the movement ofthe roll at the time of applyingyandf preventing the same from bepushed down too far. YVhen the paper 1s-used up, the core o-r spool may be very easily removed and anew roll applied. VIt
,wi-ll 'be noted by referring to Fig. 1 that by tightening. or loosening the screwor shaft the friction ofthe reel on the spacer 5 and head or abutment l may be varied so that the reel may'run .easily or may be retarded.
This ypermits an adjustment so that the reel will not spin oroverrun, causing a waste of ring the yielding frictional engagement beiie.
CIV
assembling. The device is particularly convenient as the paper' is so held that the wall or support is not in any way injured or does the wall become accidentally soiled by carelessness in pulling the paper from the roll.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wishto be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construetion, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described or uses mentioned.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: l
l. A paper roll holder consisting of a shaft arranged at one end for engagement with a lixed support and provided with an abutment at the other end, a spacer meinber arranged on said shaft at said support. and a reel consisting of a sheet metal piece having one end pivotally mounted on the shaft and extending transversely thereto and thence bent to provide a roll-engaging plate substantially parallel with the shaft and thence transversely to the shaft at said abutment and pivotally secured on the shaft, and thence bent substantially parallel with the shaft to adjacent said spacer, and thence laterally and pivotally secured to the shaft forming a bearing on said spacer, said lastnientioned end extending a distance to cngage the end of a paper roll mounted on the reel.
2. A paper roll holder consisting of a shaft arranged at one end for engagement with a fixed support and provided with an abutment at the other end, a spacer member arranged on said shaft at said support and a reel consisting of a sheet metal piece having one end pivotally mounted on the shaft and extending transversely thereto, and thence bent to provide a roll-engaging plate substantially parallel with the shaft and thence transversely to the shaft at said abutment and pivotally secured on the shaft, and thence bent substantially parallel with the shaft to adjacent said spacer, and thence laterally and pivotally secured to the shaft forming a bearing on said spacer, said last- .mentioned end extending a distance to engage the end of a paper roll mountedon the reel, and a closure forthe free end of the paper roll.
3. A paper roll holder consisting of a shaft threaded atone end for engagement with a fixed support and looped at the other end to provide an abutment, a member arranged on said shaft at said support and constituting a spacer thereat and a resilient roll holder mounted to rotate on said shaft between said spacer and said abutment, said roll holder consisting of a sheet metal piece pivotally mounted on the shaft at said spacer, the piece bent and extending parallel with the sha-tt, and thence trans# versely thereto and pivotally mounted on the shaft, and thence extending rearwardly toward the spacer, the paper roll being held in place on said shaft by the action of the resilient roll holder engaging the interior of the roll, said roll being inserted in posi tion over the free end of the shaft and roll holder.
t. A paper roll holder consisting of a shaft threaded at one end for engagement with a fixed support and looped at the other end to provide an abutment, a spacing mem-` her arranged on said shaft at said fixed support and a resilient roll holder mounted to rotate on said shaftbetween said spacing member and said abutment, said roll holder consisting of a piece of sheet metal extending transversely to and pivotally mounted on the shaft at said spacer, with the free end of a length to engage with the end of a roll of paper carried on the roll holder, the opposite end of the transversely extending piece bent and extending parallel with the shaft and thence bent transversely thereto and pivotally mounted on the shaft, and thence bent rearwardly toward the spacing member, the paper roll being held in place on said shaft by the action of theresilient roll holder engaging the interior of the roll, said roll being inserted in position over the free end of the shaft and roll hold-` er, and a cap mounted on the roll at the open outer end thereof and maintained in place by engagement with the interior of the roll.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name. p
