IMPROVEMENT IN VAPOR-BURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 16 1,635, dated April 6, 1875; application filed March 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. PRENTISS, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a Vapor-Burner, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in the combination, with the tip a, of the flaring and upwardlycurved flange I), having arecess, 0, covered by the plate d, and also having the opening 0, as described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is \a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
a is the tip, having a broad flaring and upwardly-curved flange, b, which is made thick at its junction with the tip, and having a chamber or recess, 0, in the upper side, which is partly covered by a plate, d. The flange b is made gradually thinner to the edge, which edge is curved upward, as shown. From the chamber in the tip is a small opening, 6, made at such an angle as to direct the current of vapor to the plate cl, and over an opening, f, in the bottom of the chamber 0.
The operation of this is as follows: The current of vapor issuing across the opening 0, and in the direction stated, against the plate d, mingles with a current of air through said opening 6, and is thoroughly mixed with the air, and burns with a brilliant flame from the entire edge and points of the flange b.
Having described my invention, I claim The combination of the tip a, the flaring flange I), having the recess 0 and the opening e, and the plate cl, as shown and described.
