0. BORNER RECORDING APPARATUS Filed March 20, 1924 Jun/liar.- Olga fiqmer 1 Patented Jan. 18, 1927.
UNITED STATES OLGA BORNER, OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
RECORDING Application filed Mareh 20, 1924, Serial No.
This invention relates to a recording apparatus which permits the separation into sections of figures or characters which have been posted on a leaf, strip or the like in any sequence to make it possible to easily add up the figures appertaining to each -individual section. For the purpose of carrying the invention into effect two rolls or strips of paper or other material suitable for recording the numbers are carried over rollers which are mounted on suitable supports and which rollers can be rotated so that any two desired parts of said strips can be brought into such position that, by the aid of copying paper or other copying means, figures entered on the uppermost strip may be transferred in the desired position to a strip below the former.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention.
Referring to said drawing:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section;
Figure 2 is a plan view, partly broken away;
Figure 3 is a cross section taken at a right angle to Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a plan View of a portion of a modification.
The numeral 5 designates a frame which may be mounted on a pedestal or otherwise. In said frame two parallel rollers 2 and 3 are journaled. Each of these rollers may have a handle 4 whereby it may be turned in order to draw the strip 1, on which the entries are made, from one roller and to wind such strip upon the other roller. The strip 1 passes over a supporting plate 6 which is carried by the frame 5. A second pair of rollers 8 and 9, which are here shown as being set at right angles to the first pair 2 and 3, carry a strip 7 which is trained over rollers 11, one of which is located beneath part of the strip 1. Thus a part of the strip 1 is superimposed over the strip 7. By rotating the roller 9 by means of a handle 10, the strip 7 can be unrolled from the roller 8 and wrapped upon the roller 9.
In Figure 2 the strip 7 is shown as provided with longitudinal line-s dividing it into columns. By shifting the two strips relatively to one another, it is possible to bring that part of the strip 7011 which the transfer is to be effected beneath the position of entry on the strip 1.
In order to bring the two strips into correct position relatively to one another, the
APPARATUS.
700,611, and in Switzerland March 24, 1923.
rollers 8 and 9 may be mounted on a slide or plate 12 which can be shifted in a direction transversely of the direction of movement of the strip The means for shifting the slide or plate 12 shown in the drawings consists of a screw 13 (Figure 2) which is journalled in the frame 5 and engages a stiationary nut 13 carried by said slide or pate.
In order to transfer an. entry from the up per strip to the lower strip copying paper lei may be interposed between the two strips. Figure 3 shows an arrangement whereby the proper position of the copying paper may be insured and which facilitates the removal of said paper after use. For this purpose two rollers 15 and 16 are provided, from one of which the copying paper is unrolled as it is wound upon the other by turning one or the other of said rollers. The strip of copying paper in its movement passes over roller guides 17 and over the plate 6 betweeen the strips 1 and 7.
Figure 4 shows a modification wherein the equivalent of the strip 7 is shown as divided up into a plurality of narrow strips 7 and the rollers 8 and 9 are shown as divided into corresponding narrow rollers 9 which may be turned individually. This arrangement has the advantage that the entries appear in close sequence. In order that the rollers 9 may be turned individually, each of them is provided with a knurled disk 18, and these disks may be separately manipulated by hand.
Instead of dividing the lower strip 7 into individual strips, the upper strip 1 may be so divided.
The rollers 2, 3, and 8, 9, instead of being placed at right angles to one another, may be place with their axes in parallelism so that the two strips 1 and 7 will move in the same direction. It would also be possible to use the strips 7 for recording the total value of the figures without copying said figures from the strip 1 by entering them directly upon the strip 7 \Vith an apparatus constructed according to the invention not only may any point on the strip 7 be brought into registration with any point on the strip 1 either by moving the slide plate 12 and with it the rollers 8 and 9 in the direction of the length of the strip 1 and by moving the strips 1 and 7 transversely of one another by winding said strips, respectively, upon the rollers 2 and.
8 or 3 and 9, but it is also possible for a user to always write upon the strip 1 at the same distance from the front edge of the plate 6 by moving the plate 12 forward or away from the writer by an amount equivalent to the distance that an entry made on the strip 1 is moved toward or away from the writer by turning either the roller 2 or the roller 3.
What I claim is:
1. Recording apparatus consisting of two superposed strips for posting entries, rollers carrying said strips, a support over which. said strips move and a movable slide which carries the rollers for the lower strip.
2. Recording apparatus consisting of two sets of superposed strips for posting entries, rollers carrying said strips and a support over which said strips move, one of said sets of strips consisting of a series of strips, separate rollers carrying each strip of said series and a movable slide which carries the rollers for one set of strips.
3. Recording apparatus consisting of two sets of strips for posting entries, rollers carrying said strips, a support for and below the strips, whereof one set consists of a series of strips, each of which is carried on separate rollers, and a movable slide which carries the rollers appertaining to one set of strips, in combination with a further set of rollers which allows copying paper to be led over the firm support and the strips.
4. Recording apparatus comprising two strips of posting entries arranged with portions in overlapping relation, operating means for each strip to move the strips in directions at an angle to each other, and a plate carrying one of said strips and its operating means and being adjustable longitudinally with respect to the remaining strip.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my signature.
OLGA BORNER.
