Description

Dec. 7 1926. 1,609.83?
W. F. SALT PICTURE HANGER Filed March 24, 1926 INVENTOR Patented Dec. 7, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM FREDER ICK SALT, OF I-IANLEY, ENGLAND.
PICTURE HANGER.
Application filed March 24, 1928, Serial No. 97,104, and in Great Britain March 23, 1925.
Reference is made to my British Patent No. 236595, on which application was made March 23, 1925, and accepted on July 9, 1925.
This invention relates to picture and like frame hangers and has as its main object to provide a device whereby the use of picture cord or wire is eliminated.
Another object is in the provision of a device that is adjustable and can be manipulated so as to accommodate either a large or a small frame.
A still further feature is to provide an appliance that when used, is concealed and which readily permits the removal of an object hung thereon, for cleaning, etc.
These and other similar objects, which will become evident as the description progresses, are accomplished by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an adjustable device, made in accordance with the invention, in a position to receive a small frame.
Figure 2 is a similar view, adjusted to re-- ceive a large frame.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view showing an application of the invention.
Referring more in detail to the drawing:
The numeral generally designates a plate, preferably sheared from sheet metal, to be fastened to a wall 11 by nails or screws 12, and having outstanding tubular beads 13 extending in parallel lengthwise across its face.
Slidably mounted in the beads 13 is a pair of wire rods 1% and 15 having closed eyes 17 integrally formed at one of their ends.
The rod let has one end 18 downwardly reaching so that the eye 17 engages the rod 15 and the rod 15 has one end 19 upturned, so that its eye engages the rod 1d, thereby making the rods slidably engageable with eachother.
The other outer ends of the rods 14 and 15 are down-turned, as at 20 and 21 respectively, and have integrally formed at their ends, hooks 22 to receive screw eyes 28 set in the frame 2st the article to be supported.
The downturned portions 20 and 21 may be bent angularly outward, as shown in Figure 3, so that the frame or object will hang at an angle and not absolutely perpendicular.
From the foregoing it may be seen that a simple, inexpensive and compact frame hanger has been disclosed, that may be adjusted to accommodate various Widths of frames and at the same time eliminate the use of picture wire.
Although the foregoing is descriptive of the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent that minor changes may be made in its construction, without the exercise of invention or conflicting with the scope of the claims hereto appended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A picture hanger comprising a wall plate having means for attachment, a pair of spaced outstanding horizontal beads formed on said plate, and adjustable means carried in said beads to engage a picture frame.
2. A picture hanger comprising a wall plate, a pair of horizontal parallel tubular beads formed on said plate, a pair of rods slidable in said beads, the inner ends of said rods being bent at right angles and having looped terminals through which the other rod passes, and means on said rods to engage a picture frame.
3. A picture hanger comprising a wall plate, parallel tubular beads formed on said plate, a pair of similar rods slidable in said beads, eyes integrally formed on opposite ends of said rods to slidably engage the opposite rod, and hooks formed on the ot ier ends of said rods to engage the frame of a picture.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this application.
W. F. SALT.
