Description
Patented Dec. 7, 1926.
i VALLIE C. LAW, OF ,SWANWICK, ILLINOIS] i COMB.
Application filed August 17, 1925. Serial No. 50,717.
My invention relates to combs, and more particularly to a side-burn comb especially adapted to the use of barber's, or others in cutting hair on the side of a mans head, which is known as side-burns, and, it is a distinct and practical improvement in comb construction designed to overcome certain practicalobjections to, and defects in, the use of the common comb when used in the cutting of side-burns. I
An object of the invention is to provide a comb which is small in size, thin in structure and provided with a substantially L-shaped handle for quickly manipulating the comb in the process of cutting a mans side-burns. A still further object is to provide a novel side-burn comb, which will posses advantages in points of simplicity, efiiciency, durability and practicability over the common barbers hair cutting comb, and, at the same time prove itself comparatively inexpensive in manufacture.
IVith the above and other objects in view, which willreadily suggest themselves to barbers, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
eferring to the accompanying drawings forming a partjof this specification, wherein like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1, is a side elevation of a substantially full size comb embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. 2, is a front elevation of the comb.
Fig. 3, is a rear elevation of the comb.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the comb.
'In carrying out the aim. of my present invention, I provide acomb for the 'particw lar purpose of cutting sideburns, although not necessarily limited thereto, as is manifest, but especially adapted therefor, and 1t consists of a very thin comb bodymember 1 provided along its lower edge with a multiplicity of suitable comb teeth 2 and along its upper edge with a multiplicity of suitable comb teeth 3. The comb proper is preferably tapered along its upper and lower edges, or teeth points from the heel or rear end 4 of the comb to its front or free end 5 thereof, as clearly shown-in Fig. 1. In other words, the front or free end 5 of the comb is ficulty cutting comb.
substantially pointed in shape and the comb progressively widens towardthe rear end or heel 4 thereof, while the body 1 of the comb and its teeth are preferably made very thin in thickness so that the hair can be out very close. 7
A suitable arm 6 extends from and is directed upwardly from the upper edge of the heel 4'- of the comb body 1. The arm 6 is preferably cylindrical in shape and is suitably flattened upon opposite sides at its juncture with the heel i of the comb body. 1,
as at7, and for asuitable short thearm 6, as shown in Fig. 3. V
A suitable handle 8 extends from the upper end of the arm 6 and is directed in distance up a direction opposite to the comb body 1, as v The handle 8 compares in length to that of the comb body 1 clearly shown in Fig. 1.
and it beveled 9 than at its lower' edge 10. The upper edge 9 is preferably curved, as shown in Fig. 1.
preferablyhas it side faces slightly The comb is preferably made from hard rubber, although it is evident that it can be made, if desired, from metal, such for inso as to be thicker at its upper edge stance, as aluminum, bone, or. any. well known I comb composition. V
From-the foregoing description, it is evident that I' provide a side-burn comb which can beeasily and quicklyhandled by the aid of the thumb and forefingerof one hand duringthe process of cutting side-burns and that, owing to its peculiar construction and shape, permits a barber to cut side-burns with uniformity and very close with no difas encountered with the ordinary hair The many advantages of the herein described invention will readily suggestthemselves to those skilled in the art to which it appertains. 1 V
I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact details of construction shown and described, but desire to have it understood that the invention I have shown in the drawings is merely illustrative, as it is manifest that various minor changes may be made in the exact form, shape and particular arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, hence I reserve the right to make any such changes, or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended clailn when fairly construed.
What I claim is: A comb comprising a thin coinb body 5 having its upper and lower edges providec with colnb teeth which are shorter at the outer end of the body and becoming gradually longer at the inner end of the comb body, an arm directed from the inner end of the comb in the direction of the upper teeth and a substantially flat handle directed from the arm in a direction opposite to the direction of the comb.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to the specification.
