NEIL C. WARD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOB.. BY DIRECT AND MESNE' ASSIGN- MENTS, TO ORANGE CRUSH COMPANY, F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, .A CORPORATION 0F ILLINOIS.
COMPARTMENT BOTTLE.
Application led February 12, 1923. Serial No. 618,523.
This invention has to do with containers and relates particularly to compartment bott-les.
Primarily it is my object to provide a multiple celled container in which several compartments may be simultaneously sealed. Secondarily it is. my object to improvise j means for carrying the several ingredients of a compound in cells separated one from l0 another but included within one larger or enclosing receptacle, and in which the isolation of such ingredients may be maintained until ready for admixture.
These and such other objects as may herel5 inafter appear are attained by the novel construction. combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described. Reference will now be` had to the drawing forming a part of this specification and in which:
Figures l, 2 and 3 are vertical sections of embodiments of my invention.
Like reference characters are used to designate similar parts in the drawing and in the description which follows:l
Referring first to Figure 1, ,the ordinal 1 is used for designating a receptacle, which, in this case, is a wide mouthed bottle having aneck 2 and a flanged lip 3. Depending` within such receptacle 1, is asecond receptacle, 'vessel or cell 4, here shown as being shaped somewhat like an inverted frustrated cone and of such diameter that its body may be readily inserted into neck 2 of bottle 1. Said inner receptacle 4 has at its larger and open end an external radial flange 5 whereby it may be made to rest upon the lip 3 of bottle 1, and is kept from dropping there into.
A cap 6, which in this instance is the conventional bottle crown having a depending fluted rim and a compressible or cork lining, is provided for receptacle 1. The cap 6 when clamped upon the lip 3 of bottle 1 engages the flange 5 ofthe inner receptacle 4. against said lip to simultaneously seal the two receptacles, 1 and 4, from one another and against the discharge of their contents. i
It is customary to construct the inner receptacle 4;, of flexible material such as parafn paper or rubber.- But if itis desirable to construct both receptacles of glass, a gasket or flat ring washer is placedintermediate said receptacles before crowning as is shown in Figure 2.
When such inner receptacle 4a is constructed of' thin glass or other brittle or breakable material, a.gasket 7 substantially U shaped in cross' section and with the open side' inwardly disposed to receive the flange 5a of said receptacle 4a is provided. A cap 6*EL is then clamped into position upon 3a of neck 2a of bottle l, compressing the gasket7, but not directly engaging the'inner receptacle' 4a. l
Figure 3 shows a second modification of the structure of my device, such modification beingr arranged to accommodate the conven tional cork or rubber stopper closure. In this arrangement, a bottle 1b having a constricted neck 2b will receive therein an inner receptacle 4" of substantially the same shape and diameter adjacent its top as said neck 2*. A flange 5b may be provided upon said receptacle 4b for limiting inward projection of said innerreceptacle into bottle 1". A
cork or stopper 6" is forced Ihome in the inner receptacle 4b and so expands said receptacle that the latter frictionally engages the walls of neck 2b to seal the outer receptacle 1b against loss of itscontents.
It is apparent that the figures in the drawing do not disclose allot the embodiments of, or the changes, alterations, land modifications to which my invent-ionmay be subjected without departing` from the spirit of my invention; hence, it is not my intention to be limited to the embodiments disclosed but to include all structures falling within the scope of the appended claims.,v
What I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. Inv container construction, an outer member, an inner member having a flanged lip, a `supporting element ,for said inner member ,and engaging said lip both from above and below, and a closure for the container sealing both ymembers against loss of contents.
l2. A compartment bottle comprising a plurality of cells of different sizes, a closure ,memben and a gasket, said gasket being removably attached to a smaller cell and providing means for seating said cell in a said cells and a second section intermediate larger cell, and said closure member consaid inner cell and said closure member. jointly sealing both of said cells. 4. A compartment vessel as described in 10 3. A compartment Vessel comprising inner claim 3, and in Which said gasket is U shaped 5 and outer cells', a closure member for the in cross section.
outer cell conjointly sealing said inner cell, l and a gasket having one section intermediate NEIL C. WARD.
