Description

1,609,068 w. DUBOIS MASSAGE TOOL Noi 30 1926.
Filed Dec. 15 1924 Patented Nov. 30, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MASSAGE lOOL.
Application filed December 15, 1924.
My invention relates to a device for massaging the skin, preferably made of a nonresilient material such as hard rubber, celluloid or a composition, and has for an ob- 5 ject the provision of a massage tool so constructed that contact with the surface of the skin will be had at different angles upon one direction of motion of the tool.
Another object is to provide a massage tool that permits actual contact with all parts of the surface under treatment.
A further object is to provide a device of the character described that can be cheaply and easily manufactured yet is durable and sanitary, and due to its nonfiexible composition eliminates irritation of surface under treatment.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, 20 combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this speeiication, in which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view, showing the symmetrical relation and arrangement of the angle-shaped projections.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of F ig. 1 on the line 2-2.
Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing the elevation and relation of the angle-shaped projections.
Fig. 4- is a cross-sectional view of Fig. 53 on the line 4.4, showing the elevation of the angle-shaped projections.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, my invention consists of a hollow cylindrical body 13 having a plurality of raised portions 11 and 12 angular in shape arranged on the circular surface 10. The raised portions 11 extend throughout the width of the surface 10 and are so positioned that their apices are alternately 0p- Serial No. 756,105.
posed. Also it will be seen that those por tions 11 having their apices at the inner circumference of the body diverge at a greater angle than those having their apices at the outer circumference. Within each of said raised angular portions 11 is a smaller raised angular portion 12, each of which is in an opposed angular relation to the portion 11 and which are alternately opposed in direction of divergence to one another.
lit will be seen that during the operation of this tool over a surface under treatment two separate and distinct movements of the surface are caused, one by the portions 11 and the other by the portions 12. Owing to the angular arrangement of the portions 11 and 12 contact is made with all parts of the surface over which the tool passes. Also the peculiar arrangement of the rubbing surface permits of continual contraction and expansion of the surface passed over, and this action is further augmented by the arrangement of the raised angular portions on diametrically opposite sides of the tool.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A massage tool having a plurality of V-shaped ridges extending throughout the width of the body and smaller V-shaped ridges within said ridges.
2. A massage tool having a plurality of ii-shaped ridges extending throughout the width of the body and smaller V-shaped ridges within first said ridges with their spices in opposed directions.
3. A massage tool, cylindrical in shape, having at one end a circular surface on which is a plurality of V-shaped ridges extending throughout the width of said circular surface and smaller V-shaped ridges within first said rid es with their apices in opposed directions.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
WILLIAM DUBOIS.
