Divided and this application` filed December This invention relates to ventilators, and more particularly to a method of manufacturing ventilator louvers, and is a division of our application Serial No. 46,457, filed July 27, 1925. The invention has for its object to provide a cheap and expeditious method whereby louvers of great strength and efliciency may be manufactured at a minimum cost` w TWith these objects in vieiv, the invention consists in forming the body of the louver at a single operation and simultaneously providing said body with an opening Whereby means for connecting the louver to an operating rod may be expeditiously and eiliciently secured thereto, and also in the same operation, so shaping the louver as to en able the pivoting means for the louver to be quickly and securely iixedthereto, preferably by spot Welding.
For the purpose of facilitating the description of the invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which,

In said drawings, like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views. In practicing the invention, We take a sheet 6 of any suitable metal, as sheet iron, sheet steel, sheet copper, of the length of the desired louver and of a suitable Width, and each louver is then stamped or otherwise formed from said metal stock in a suitable machine by a single operation, as for example in a stamping machine, so as to produce a substantially Wide medial portion 7. and reversely bent narrower front and rear flange portions 8 and 9. At the sam-e vtime the bending on the line of flange portion 9 is intended to receive the pivot means for the louvers. and a hole 10 (Fig. 2) is punched centrally of the louver in the medial portion adjacent the bending line et flange a.

Each louver is then provided with a suitable means for connecting the louver to an operating rod, which means-is here shoivn in the forni of a clevis 13, preferably U-shaped in cross-section and secured to the louver by a rivet ld which passes through the bottom of the clcvis and through the opening 10. The louver and the clevis are then further secured together at the sides of the clevis by spotl Welding as indicated at l5, l5 (Fig. t), whereby the clevis is preventedfrom turning on the pivot and Working loose.
By manufacturing the louver in accord ance With the method described, a louver of great strength and simplicity of construction is secured, While the materials employed and the steps necessary in the manufacture thereof enable us to produce a louver of superior quality and at minimum cost.
What is claimed is l. The method of making ventilator louvers which comprises reve-rsely bending opposite edge portions of a piece of metal stock to form flanges defining a medial portion and simultaneously indenting the bending line ot one of the flanges, and then securing pivot means along said indented bending line.
2. The method of making ventilator louvers, which comprises reversely bending opposite edge portions of a piece of metal stock to form flanges defining a medial portion and simultaneously indenting the bending line of one of the flanges and punching a Clovis-attaching opening centrally of the article adjacent the bending line of the other flange.
3. The method of making ventilator louvers Which comprises rev-ersely bending opposed edges of a piece of metal stock to provide al medial portion and a pair of flanges and simultaneously indenting each end of the article on the bending line of one of the flanges to form a pair of pivot pin depressions. securing a pair of pivotpins in said depressions by Welding, and formill) said inedial portion and near the bending line of the other flange.
4. The method of making ventilator louvers which comprises reversely bending Opposed edges of a piece of metal stock to form flanges defining a medial portion Wider than the flanges and simultaneously indenting the ends of the article on the bending line of one of the flanges to form a pair ot' pivot pin depressions and forming a clevis attaching opening in said medial portion adjacent the bending line ot' the other flange, and securing a pair of pivot pins in said depressions by spot Welding.
5. The method of making ventilator louvers, which comprises reversely bending the edges of an elongated piece of metal stock to provide flanges thereon and simultaneously indenting each end of the article on the bending line of one of the flanges to form pivotpin receiving depressions and punching a hole centrally of the article adjacent the bending line of the other lange, whereby a clevis may be secured to the louv-er. 6. The method 0f making ventilator lonvers, which comprises leversely bending the edges of an elongated piece of metal Stoch to provide flanges thereon and simultaneousi ly indenting each end of the article on the bending line ot' one of the flanges to ferm pivot pin depressions, and then securing pivot pins in said depressions by spot Welding.
