IMPROVEMENT IN CHIMNEV-STAGING BRACKETS.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, PHINEAs WILLARD, of Milford, of the county of Worcester and State of .Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Chimney-Staging Bracket; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, ot' which- Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 an end view, of it. V

In said drawings, A denotes a long bar, provided with two legs, B B, arranged with it, as shown, each of such legs, at its upper end, being hinged to the bar, as represented at a. Furthermore, there extends down from the bar, on opposite sides of its middle, two ears or shoulders, b b, each having pivoted to it one ot' two brace-rods, C C, shaped as shown. Each ofthe said brace-rods, near its outer end, is provided with a series of holes, as at c, to receive a stud, d, projecting from one of the legs B B, the brace-rod being held in place on the stud, when in one of the said holes, by a pin, e, inserted downward and diametrically through the stud. Furthermore, each leg B is provided with an adjustable foot, D, furnished with a stop-rack, E, and they are arranged together and alongside of the leg, in manner as shown. rlhe said foot slides through a clasp, f, projecting from the lower part of the leg, the stoprack also going through a slot in a bracket, g, extending from the leg. A wedge, 7L, provided with a handle, i, and being inserted in the slot of the bracket, and between the leg and the catch-rack, serves to force the latter into engagement with the bracket, so as to hold the foot from moving vertically independent ofthe leg.

When not in use, the legs, feet, and brace-u rods may be folded down upon or toward the bar A.

When applied to a roof, the bar A is to be placed transversely across the ridge thereof, which should go between the ears b b, they serving to hold the bar in place, after which the bar should be adjusted into a horizontal position and the feet let down, so as to rest on the opposite slopes of the roof. Next, the wedges should be inserted in the brackets, and the brace-rods should be liked on the studs o f the legs.

Two 'of the staging-brackets being thus arranged on the roof, and on opposite sides ot' a chimney to be repaired, or the space through which one is to be erected, planks may be laid on and across the bars A A of the said two brackets, so as to form with them a staging to support the mason and his materials while repairing or building the chimney.
