The invention is exemplified in a receptacle comprising a bottom 5 and. an annular wall 6 forming-the body of the receptacle and acover 7 provided with a flange 8 to fit around the wall 6 and form a :tightclosure therewith. The cover is removably secured to the receptacle body by studs 9 and angular notches 10. By a slight relative rota tion of the cover and body, the studs 9 may be brought into position to pass through the vertical portions of the slots 10 to permit the cover to be removed. Reverse operation willv cause the studs to be locked in the horizontal portions of the slots, the cover and body eing adapted to form a closed receptacle for retaining ashes, matches, etc. A central opening is formed in the top 7 of the cover and an upwardly and outwardly flared an- 21111181 member 11 is fixedly secured to the cover. An oppositelyinclined conoidal member 12 has its lower margin extended into the receptacle and to close the opening in the cover. Conoidal member'12 and the member 11 form an annular V-shaped ash receiving pocl ret or channel. A spring 16 in said tube bears on the bottom 5'and against the lowerend of post 13 to press member 12,upwardly to normally close the central opening in the cover and to permit said member to be pushed downwardly so that the ashes and other material held in the channel formed-by members 11 and 12 will, fall into the receptacle- A handle or finger piece 17 is secured to the upper end of post 13 by a screw 18. After the finger-piece has been depressed to deposit the ashes into the closed receptacle, spring '16wil1 automatically restore member 12 to close the receptacle. The marginal portion 19 of the member 12 is substantially horizontal. Cigar'or cigarette holders 20 are secured to the inarginal portion 19 of member 11, being supported by posts 21 which are suitably secured by screws 22 to said marginal portion of member 11. The holder 23. for match boxes is also mounted upon the marginal portion 19 of member 11, being secured thereto by Ta screw 24 and a post 25. A cigar cutter come prising a support 26 securedto marginal portion i9 by screws 27 and provided with openings 28, to receive the tips ofcigars to be cut and a knife 29 slidably mounted inthe support and operable by a finger-piece '30.

A spring 31 retracts the finger-p ece. -A knife.29 is provided withcutting edges atthe inner sides of openings 28 res ectively and adapted to sever the tips from the cigars when the finger-piece 30 is depressed. A deflector 32in support 26 discharges the tips through an opening in one side of the sup port into'the receiving channel for the ashes.

When it is desired to empty the receptacle, the cover 7 will be removed from the bodyfi. 'When that has been done, member 12 .may, be removed, the' post 13 being removable from tube 14. Upon removal of member 12, the contents of the body may be easily discharged.

The invention exemplifies an ash-holder which com rises a closed receptacle and annular mem ers inclined toward each other into the closed receptacle; also one in which a conical member forms receptacle.
