FLOWERPOT HOLDER.

This invention relates to devices for holding and supporting flower pots and has for its principal object the production of such a device which shall be simple in construction and which shall not injure or mar asurface on which it is placed.

it further objectof the invention is the production of a device of the above character wh *b shall contain a chamber. adapted to rec-.. e any superfluous water which may be poured into the pot, this chamber being so located that the superfluous water therein will be sucked up by capillary action into the earth in the pot when the earth therein has become sufficiently dry.

A further object of the invention is the production of a device of the above character the parts of which shall be adapted to inter lit in a convenient manner whereby the device may be conveniently packed and shipped.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the accompanying description, the invention consisting in the novel flower pot holder hereinafter more particularly described and then specified in the claims.

Referring in detail to the drawings:

1 indicates the body of the holder which comprises an inverted cone-shaped member open at its top to form a mouth the peripheral edge 1 of which is preferably rolled over on itself to form a smooth surface thus eliminating sharp or pointed ends or corners. The stand portion of the device is indicated at t and comprises a frusto-spherical or inverted cup-shaped member the lower edge 5 of which is rolled over on itself whereby a smooth seat or edge, unmarred by sharp corners, is provided for the member when it is placed on a suitable support. The outwardly extended flange or edge of the stand i is in this way arranged to lie substantially flat or horizontally upon the supporting surface, thus preventing the stand from injuring the supporting surface.

Said member is provided with an annular opening (3 therein disposed centrally thereof and having a downwardly depending flange T at the periphery of said opening. lVhen the parts are mounted in proper position the wall of the chamber 3 is slipped through the opening (3 and frictionally engages the flange 7 with the lower edge of the base engaging the upper wall of the stand.

The body 1 is adapted to receive therein an earthenware flower pot 8 as shown in Fig. 3. Said pot has the usual opening 9 in the base thereof, said opening communi- "ating with the chamber 3 when the parts are in the position described. \Vhen the flower pot 8 contains earth and flowers or plants and a superfluous amount of water is poured on the earth the excess thereof will flow through the earth, through the opening 9 of the flower pot and into the chamber 3. As the earth becomes dried out the water from the chamber 7 is drawn up and back through the opening 9 into the earth by capillary action to keep the earth moist until the supply of water in the chamber has become exhausted. The construction described is of particular advantage in that there is no moisture on or in any part of the device which contacts with the support on which the stand 4: is placed, so that a marring or other disfigurementof the support is obviated. lVhcn it is desired to ship the parts the stand can be placed in inverted position on the top edge of the body as shown in Fig. 1 and inasmuch as the diameter of the stand is slightly greater than the diameter of the upper rim or edge of the body, the body will conveniently support the stand with the outwardly extending cupshaped portion thereof entering the space comprising the mouth of the body.

In the modification illustrated in Fig. the lower wall or base oi the body is provided with an opening 13 adapted to register with the opening 9 in the flower pot and the stand 4: is provided with a downwardly depressed portion l t whirh constitutes the water receiving chamber and performs the same function as the chambers in the pre vious cases.

I claim as my invention:

1. A flower pot holder comprising a cone-shaped hollow body provided with a base, said body being open at upper end and adapted to receive a flower pot therein, a water holding chamber depending downwardly from the base of said body and an inverted cup-shaped stand provided with substantially horizontally arranged outwardly extending supporting edges and with an opening frictionally receiving a wall of said chamber.

2. A flower-pot holder comprising a body adapted to receive a flower pot with an opening in the base thereof. a downwardly depending water-receiving chamber integral with said body and so positioned as to be beneath the opening in said flower pot, an inverted cup-shaped stand provided with an opening therein and a downwardly depending flange on the edge of said opening adapted to trictionally receive the wall of said chamber.

A flower pot holder comprising a hollow body having an open mouth adapted to receive a flower pot therein, a downwardly depending member on said body and an annular inv rted cup-shaped stand provided with an opening trictionally receiving said downwardly depending member and with outwardly extended edges tor supporting said stand and holder, the said stand being constructed to intertit with the open mouth of said holder when not in use a supporting stand.

A combined flower pot holder and stand comprising a body part and a detachable support, said body part having an opening permitting the insertion of a tiowcr not provided with an apertured base thereinto, said support being of inverted cupshaped term and provided with a substantially horizontally arranged upper surface said body part resting upon said. surface. a depending water receiving chamber extended into said support and positioned in spaced relation to the plane of the supporting surface of the latter and communicatin with the apertured base of said flower pot.
