NECKTIE.

This invention relates to neckties and more particularly to neckties ofthe bow or hat wing type.

Ansobject of the inventionis to provide a device"v of this character in which the bow portion of the tie is secured intermediate its ends across and at right angles to a neckband portion of the same tie.

Itis a well known fact that in tying a bow tie the two end portions are positioned vertically with relation to the neckband. This is usually done by tying a knot in the tie so as to position the two ends vertically, one end being preferably longer than the other, and the two ends are then folded and tied to form a bow which will be in horizontal position and longitudinal with relation to the neckband of the tie, and it is therefore the primary obj-ect of my invention to provide a tie having a bow, or strip to form a bow, secured intermediate its ends at right angles to the neckband portion of the tie so that when the latter is around the neck of the user the end portions are vertical.

A further object is to provide a tie in which the bow portion of the tie is secured intermediate its ends to an elastic section of the neckband, the latter being capable of adjustment longitudinally and having suitable `coupling means to connect the same around the collar, leaving the bow portion of the tie in roper position for tying.

Wit these and other ob]ects in v iew, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be more full hereinafter described and pointed out in t e claim.

Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved tie, all portions thereof laid fiat;

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the tie with the bow formed ready for use.

While my apparatus as a whole constitutes a necktie, as a/ matter of fact it constitutes two distinct portions of a necktie, to which for clearness of description I shall give different terms.

the medium of a coupling slide 3. A strip of elastic 4 is secured to one end of the neck band 1 and a hook 5 is provided on one end of the neckband with an eye 6 at the other end to facilitate the coupling of the same around the collar of the user.

The bow portion 2 is preferably of the bat wineP type but it may be of any other type and has a narrow intermediate portion 8 which is secured to the elastic strip 4:.

The strip 2 or bow portion is disposed at right angles to t-he neckband portion l, and while of course the invention is not limited to any particular means of Acoupling the two portions of the tie together I preferably provide at least two coupling means 7 in parallel as shown so as to prevent the possibility of pivotal or twisting movement. This coupling means may comprise ordinary stitching or any other suitable fastening mechanism.

The point of attachment between the parts is nearer one end of the strip 2 than the other so that one end of the bow portion is slightly longer than the other whichis convenient for tying a presentable how. The bow may be tied before the device is placed around the collar, or it may be tied after the band l is secured around the collar and the tying of the bow is well within the scope of any user of neckties. After the bow is once tied to the satisfaction of the user it need not be again tied or untied as the device can be placed on the collar or removed therefrom, as will be readily understood.

With my improved necktie I not only pron vide a tie which can be easily tied in bow form but I provide a neclitie which is made up of a strip located at right angles to the neckband so that this strip will be positioned vertically, ready for tying when the band is in position on the neck, and I therefore be lieve that I am enabled to provide an article of this character which is not only superior in its structural formation to analogous devices but it presents a superior appearance and is much more convenient for the user of ties who desires to make his own bow.

Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth butl consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.

I claim: A neckt-ie, comprising a neckband, an 5 elastic strip at one end of the neckband, coupling devices at the respective ends of the neckband, strip adapted to be tied into bow form, said strip narrowest at its intermedia-te portion, and means securing the intermediate portion of the last mentioned` l0 strip to the elastic portion of the neckband and at right angles thereto.
